Suggestions for Halloween movies?
I really like watching scary, ghost or monster movies this time of year, but not too scary...

Suggestions of your fave old- style, silly, not too gory or stylized horror movies that everyone can watch, young and old, would be appreciated.

Nope, I just don't like the gore. :)

19. No need to appologise for it being animated
Some of the best films ever made were animated. I think the director can better convey their ideas through animated films. They are limited by reality and actors in the live medium. Though computers are changing that. But that is just bringing the world of animation to live action films.

4. The Keep
Michael Mann does horror. Great underrated movie.

But if ya want to have fun... Dead Alive. Peter Jackson created the funniest horror flick ever. Evil Dead series on crack.

From Japan... well there is a lot of good stuff to really creep ya out from Japan these days. Ju-on The grudge very very creepy. Audition... not so much horror in it... but danggggg. Tomie series.... well.... just don't call her bakimon (monster).

18. I love that flick for one simple reason
That is beyond it being a good movie. It shows how a skeptic would react given a real paranormal event. Depps Ickabod is a true scientist. Given the evidence at hand he follows it to whatever truth it unveils. His initial reaction is skepticism but as he finds further convincing evidence for the the fanstastic explanation he follows it through.

10. "Rocky Horror" is always fun.
Don't know if it falls into the category of "appropriate," but it's still one of my favorites. :D

12. If you can deal with subtitles
Then I suggest "The Eye" and The Eye 2". Both are very atmospheric and frightening, with lots of ghosts. They are stylized, but in a completely appropriate way.

13. Here's a couple more traditional ones
The Haunting, (1963 version)
The Uninvited (1944 ghost story with Ray Milland)
The Others with Nicole Kidman
The Innocents (based on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James)
House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price

16. Oooh, in the Haunting derivitive: The Legend of Hell House
A great science vs paranormal take on the Hell House theme. And really ... how much excuse do you need to watch a Roddy McDowel flick?

20. If you can find it and like camp style flicks
And you can handle an overdose of 80's schmaltz... there is this flick called Rockula. Its notable for the music talent in it. Thomas Dolby, Bo Diddley, and Toni Basil all have major rolls in the flick. And its clear they didn't care how goofy it was. They are having fun. Dean Cameron (lately seen in the Geico Spelling bee adds as the bald judge reading the words) leads the cast as the reluctant vampire looking for love.

Classic line from the movie: That was my mother you just boned!
