Sports hero (for the other team) that ripped your heart out... ?
The Pujols last strike/out homer last night made me think about this...

For me it's gotta include Willie Stargell on the freaking "We Are Family" Pirates in '79, I also seem to recall Dave Parker (?) making some unbelievable throw to save one of the early games for them...

Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson, Hill, Dorsett, Newhouse have gotta be in there somewhere, beating my 'Skins and keeping them out of the playoffs at least a few times, but for some reason I don't remember specific moments from those years...

Larry Bird on at least a few occasions, I remember him making a steal to win one of the championship games against my beloved Showtime Lakers (before they became my somewhat hated Shaq-fu Lakers).

1. Aas a Vikings fan
the Hail Mary from Staubach to Drew Pearson in 1975, IIRC, was the worst. Especially considering that Pearson clearly pushed off of the DB. Worst. Call. Ever. And one more reason to hate the Cowboys.

15. I really liked those Browns teams with Kosar too, always wanted one
to make the Super Bowl... even though I still would've rooted for my 'Skins that year. I remember that fumble...

I always felt there's no way the Browns would've made as bad a showing as the Broncs did in those early SB's against the Giants and the 'Skins. The best NFC teams were better then, though...

21. BERNIE!!!
I've ran across some old NFL films shows about that era of the Browns and it is amazing how easily history forgets really good teams.

Would they have done better? (the snipe remark is to say that they couldn't have done worse) who knows?

17. Joe Montana.
For sure. I'm a huge Bengals fan, and many will remember the famous Super Bowl XXIII in 1989. 49ers vs. Bengals. Bengals were up 16-13 with around 2:00 minutes left in the game, and Joe Montana and Jerry Rice just tore apart the Bengals defense on a long drive that ended with Montana to Taylor in the endzone with :16 seconds left, winning the game 20-16. I've despised the 49ers (but not Joe Montana) ever since.

18. Yeah, Bengals had good teams those years. I always pulled for
them against the 9ers in those years, mainly because the AFC was such underdogs. Wasn't Ken O'Brien the QB? Liked him too.

I would imagine if you were a Cowboys fan, "The Catch" probably was the heart ripper.

And the "immaculate reception" if you were a Raidazz fan...

34. My brother's a big Cowboys fan.
And he hates the 49ers just as much. However, he was too young to remember "The Catch". It was moreso because of those early-to-mid-90's battles they'd have in the playoffs all the time.

43. Raiders fans are still mad about 'the fumble that wasn't'
but it was only payback for the bogus roughing the passer call from earlier years Grogan vs. Stabler AFC championship.

For me, as an old Oilers fan, Rulon Jones of the Bengals was a nemesis. Many times my Oilers would be facing a third and one and Merlin Olsen would yell "Rulon Jones!!!" as he broke through the line and forced a fourth and four.

39. Hell yeah!
The Bengals wouldn't be where they are without Palmer. Last week's 121 passer-rating performance tied Peyton Manning's NFL record 9 consecutive games with a 100+ passer rating. Impressive, eh?

Especially when you consider the fact that Palmer has only started 19 NFL games. That means after his first 10 games, he has achieved a 100+ passer rating in every game since.

I hope he gets the record - that would be awesome. But it'll tough. We play Pittsburgh this week. :scared: But we're at home, so that's a plus.

after so many crushing tourney losses, especially to Duke.

The funny thing is, the Terps team that won isn't even close to as talented as some of their most talented, it's just that Gary Williams is a much better big game coach than Lefty could ever dream of being.

Old Terps teams had NBA All Stars like Buck Williams on 'em, and potential All Stars like Len Bias...
