Would it be crass to sell a Gift? |
|
I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but I need to sell the gift that Don_G bought me so that I can pay my tuition. I don't need the INTERNET as much as I do a degree.
Would it be horrible to sell a gift.
I would be mad at someone if they sold a gift that I had bought them.
I made my cousin some porcelain Dolls one time and she sold them and it hurt me real bad. Not because of how much she got out of them but because I gave them to her.

1. Once a gift is given to you it is yours |
|
You have an emminantly good reason to sell the gift. If it were me I wouldn't have a problem.

To be a gift a thing must be yours completely. A gift that you can never dispose of is a kind of a trap. There are consequences to sending gifts on, but if you couldn't then it was only on loan to you.

3. I think you may have answered your own question. |

"I would be mad at someone if they sold a gift that I had bought them."
I have done it myself in times of financial struggle, and felt horrible about it afterward.

4. I think you should try to think of another way |
|
I think you would really, really miss having your computer. Your online relationships are important to you. When you didn't have the computer you missed it, and we missed you.
Isn't there any other way to raise the money? Could you use the computer to make money somehow? Doing resumes or something like that for other people? Or typing up other people's college papers? Or selling stuff on EBay?

5. I am worried about falling out of full time status |
|
The minute that you can't go to College your loans become due and they take you off of full time status and everything gets canceled out.
I have 25 hours to go in order to get my Degree and I need my Degree.

6. How much time do you have to raise the tuition money? |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-16-03 10:07 PM by Stephanie
When do you have to pay it? When you say 25 hours, how many semesters or quarters is that?
*edit - I'm just thinking that it might seem like the answer in the short term but in the long term it might not be worth it. Maybe there's another way to get the money.

7. Each class is 3 credit hours |
|
I have taken 5 or 6 classes in a semester before which was too many classes and I passed all of them with an A.
I have one class that is 1 Credit hour which is working in the Café one day per week.
So, that means I have 8 classes left plus 1 class in the Café. I could finish by June at the latest.

I didn't know that you could sell food on eBay unless you were a company. Last year I was going to post some cookies up and I didn't have my Sanitation License. I have my License now and that is a good Idea.
What kinds of cookies do you think would sell?

16. if you have loans, why do you need money for tuition?? |
|
i'm confused..
although this sounds like a short-term solution. there are always deferrements for student loans. i think you should check it out more before you go selling things to pay tuition.

I have never done anything like this at all. I need to finish my degree and I am desperate and that's it. I have to finish my course so that I can change my life and I am the only person that can change my life.

I don't understand how you even began the semester without paying tuition. Either it was paid or it wasn't, and if it wasn't, then you wouldn't have been on the instructors' rolls.
Are you saying that they took tuition away from you halfway through the semester? That is unlike any proceedure of any college with which I have ever been affiliated.
I have never heard of a student being kicked out halfway through a semester. You need to go back to Student Affairs or the REgistrar and have this explained in detail to you.
I don't think selling the gift is crass--I think coming on this public forum to announce you are considering it is crass. You should have handled this in private with the gift-giver, not here in public.

21. Have you been to College Recently? |
|
If you have an agency paying by the month and they skip a couple of months and you are past the deadline of paying your tuition then it can happen in the middle of a term and it does or they wouldn't be pulling people out on a daily basis.
Colleges are run like corporations now and they are no longer run like Schools.
It can happen in the middle of a semester since our semesters run on odd and even classes and I was on odd semester student that fell behind which makes me an even semester student and my tuition came due during my new semester.
AND IF YOU DON'T THINK THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN IN FINANCIAL AID FIGHTING THEN YOUR WRONG HONEY!

and am told during the second week of classes to purge my rolls of people who haven't paid all of their tuition.
Your college must not be a state-funded university?

BTW I have never accepted gifts from anyone outside of my family ever and I don't expect someone to give me a gift. I always give to others when I can and I have done it in the past.
If the person ever dropped by to visit you and the gift was missing what would you tell that person? Also, how do you explain it to someone when you completely vanish off of the INTERNET if they are curious as to why you are no longer on the INTERNET.
Anyways my phone line is also being disconnected in a few days which is a bundled pkg that has cable and the INTERNET so I will not have a use for the computer except to do my homework on if I can manged to get back in.
