Poll question: Who would you have voted for in the 1980 Democratic Primary? |
Well, we've had polls for 1988, with Gary Hart barely beating Al Gore, and for 1984, with Walter Mondale edging out Gary Hart. The 1980 elections were far simpler, with only two major candidates.

1. This is a really difficult choice for me |
I've always had the utmost respect for Ted Kennedy. He's a fantastic senator. However, Jimmy Carter is one of my personal heroes, as is Fritz Mondale, so I have to side with President Carter.

I helped my dad out in both elections, '76 and '80, delivering yard signs, doing GOTV efforts. I wasn't old enough to vote for the first time until 1982 (Ohio governor's race, my first 'big' election, and though I voted for Jerry Springer in the primary, I voted for Dick Celeste in the general and he won; I've been a junkie ever since). Didn't vote in the '84 Dem primary poll because I don't remember if I voted in the primary or not, though I did vote in the general election. Living in Ohio, the candidate usually had it all sewed up by the time ours was held -- I think it was May, back then, though they've moved it up since.

3. I don't guess I'll ever completely forgive Ted Kennedy |
for running in 1980. He hurt the Democratic party so bad for nothing but his own ego. I resent Kennedy in much the same way I resent Nader. Yes, I respect his work in the senate, but I don not respect the man anymore.

6. How about who did you vote for in the primary? |
Jimmy Carter, he was a good man who had a populist organization and we thought the world would change.
