Driving through Southern Georgia
I was doing that today. I was wondering something. Is the area red or blue?

Here's a really interesting map -- interactive, revealing, fun:

4. Southern Georgia stinks.
I think it's the paper mills.

My guess is that it's a red state that goes blue in the Atlanta area. Just a guess, mind you.

18. mmm....sulfur...
It depends which part of Atlanta you're in. My girlfriend has a rich uncle, for example. That section of Atlanta is uber-Republican. The rest is Democratic.
Southwest Georgia is blue. Central and Southeast Georgia are red. I am a nice bluish-green color.

6. Sonny Perdue's pro-Confederate flag stance was very popular in south Ga.
Pickup trucks, with rifle racks and Confederate flag stickers. Bumper stickers that say "Guns - God - and Rush." Atlanta consistently elects African-American Democratic mayors, and the good old boys in south Georgia just can't stand it.

7. Actually over 65% of Georgia is forest so green is my first choice

although the hardwoods present a beautiful range of colors in the fall.

Georgia independent voters have been voting for Republican candidates but they have much in common with conservative Democrats like Blanco who was just elected Governor of Lousiana.

My guess is any Democrat candidate who ran on the same platform as Blanco would be very competitive, i.e. "oppose affirmative action, abortion, gun control and higher taxes while embracing steps to improve schools, health care and the state's anemic economy." (see Kathleen Blanco Wins Louisiana Gov. Race

:hi:

9. Well, not too fast.
South Georgia has historically had some world-class speed traps. Anyone remember Ludowici, Georgia on US 25/84? It was a notorious speed trap in the pre-interstate highway days.

13. Regarding air displays
I was in Uncle Sugar's Air Force way back when the world was young. As a color blind enlisted man, I never got to fly much, but I have always loved just being around airplanes. The old Castle AirForce Base, in Atwater, California, has a static display of almost all combat aircraft from WW II to the end of the Viet Nam Era. There is even an SR71. There is a B17, B29, P51, P40, C47, F86, F102(something Bush may remember), B52, etc, etc. There are more planes than I ever saw while I was in. Any old GI traveling up state Hwy 99 should take a detour and spend a couple of hours looking at real beauties.

Oh yeah. That's where I live. We got a black Democratic Congressman and a Nobel Peace Prize-winning former Democratic President. Top that, Floridians! Bwahahaaaa

Southeast Georgia, toward St. Simons, is Red. Lots of rich people.

14. I remember when Savannah was cultured and the people were intelligent!
Ahhh......once upon a time.....driving from Jacksonville up 95 and having to stay in any motel from Brunswick up is a sad experience today.
The rest stops make you want to leave America. I say this as one who has relatives in Savannah...so I'm trashing my own, here..but it's a nightmare1 However there is a Democratic Area in Savannah. Big Repugs for McCain there. (I think that means there's hope) and if you look on detailed map it seems Savannah and maybe a touch of Hilton Head Island (Big Golf Retirement area on the Coast) voted Dem in the past. It's not as "lock step" as it looks from the "Rest Stops." But OTOH, the Rest Stops may be filled with folks from NJ. So, I shouldn't be so judgemental. But, even "off road" in my last trip in June...didn't find much different in the "Cracker Barrel" Restaurant where the US Flag decals on the MEGA-SUV's (those Chevy things) were the predominant vehicles in parking lots. Maybe they were from NJ also....

OOPS! NJ voted Dem.......arghhhhh....maybe Virginia or Alabama?
