What makes me sad every day
Here in Japan I have a decent job that pays well enough for me live comfortably and still save. I have affordable health care that covers my medical expenses. I live a relatively anonymous life free from fear of authority or political repression. Isn't this what America was supposed to all about? It's so wrong that I have to go halfway across the world to find the dream that was promised to me as a child. There are many things I like about living in Japan, but the bottom line is I miss America, I miss my family and friends, and I want to come home. But I don't how I can reasonably give this up, when under the current conditions, the U.S. won't offer me anywhere near the same opportunity. In fact, the prospects seem much worse. I hope things change soon. I'm sticking it out here until after the '04 Election (Yes, I'm voting), but I hate to think of having to give up everything I've ever known for self-preservation. Becoming a permanent expat is a distinct and very real possibility for me. It's a decision I'm going to have to make at some point, and it makes me want to cry just thinking about it. This isn't the way it was supposed to be.

Anyone have any thoughts? Especially you fellow expats out there.

I could live in Japan. Hell, I almost did. Got on the Wrong JR headed for NRT, nearly missed my flight. God, I miss Tokyo!

2. Come back in 2005 and welcome our new Democratic president.
It's going to happen. I know you miss your friends, but believe me, you don't want to be here in the good 'ol US now. I hardly recognize this country.

4. I just had my first Tokyo experience
a couple weeks ago (aside from just passing through) and I loved it! What a blast that place is! I'm thinking if I stay I want to live there. Right now I'm out in the country. It's totally dull here by comparison.
