Oh sweet mother of God save me - I have Dancing Queen in my head |
|
Here I am, writing a paper. I was listening to some meditation kind of CDs, with lots of frogs and rain and stuff while writing. Then, BAM!, about 2 hours ago, OUT OF NOWHERE, "Dancing Queen" comes screaming into my head. Not only do I hate this song, and not only have I always hated this song, I also only know these lines:
"You are the dancing queen, yong and sweet on the tambourine
la la la lala, and lots of la la la la stuff,
and I know:
"You can dance, you can fly, ghaving the time of our lives
blah blah blah blah
Dancing Queesn... etc."
So, it's not only stuck, I don't even get the benefit of the whole thing, which would mean less repitition (if there is such a thing as less repitition in an ABBA tune). Nope, just those two lines.
Will someone, for the love of God, have sympathy on me?

3. Build it into a big crescendo with a huge finale. Somehow............. |
|
this "brings closure" to the song. Or so I've been told. Good luck!!!! I'm so glad this song has never captured me.

5. It used to hit me a lot, because I walked by the wintergarden every |
|
morning and evening on my way to and home from work.
The wintergarden is where that ABBA musical is playing, where CATS used to be. And bloody hell, for 9 months, I had an office that looked down at the marquee.
Egads. Such horror I put up with.
Why won't you die? I say in my best Austin Powers voice.

14. LIGHTS OUT! GUERRILLA RADIO! |
|
TURN THAT SHIT UP!
Transmission third world war third round A decade of the weapon of sound above ground No shelter if youre looking for shade I lick shots at the brutal charade As the polls close like a casket On truth devoured Silent play in the shadow of power A spectacle monopolized The cameras eyes on choice disguised Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil? Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil? Yes a spectacle monopolized They hold the reins, stole your eyes All the fistagons the bullets and bombs Who stuff the banks Who staff the party ranks More for Gore or the son of a drug lord None of the above fuck it cut the cord
(chorus)
That should hold ya over :7

ABBA has more earworms and hooks than any 100 disco albums.
But, just think of those poor people who grew up with The Andrews Sisters.

I'm reliably informed that that constitutes a practically unshiftable earworm for Americans. As I've never heard it, I can use it with impunity. MWUAHAHAHA!!!

Some songs are just like that. The best remedy I've found is to listen to something equally addictive that you prefer to the one that's stuck in yoor head. Simon & Garfunkel does it for me. I sing with them while I'm in the car and sometimes speed right past my destination!:D

Just imagine Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad." After a few hundred repeats of I wanna weesh you a merry creesmas, you will go out of your mind afresh.
Sorry.
It will go away by tomorrow, or at least by next Wednesday.

35. Dancing queen is a world class pop song |
|
My sympathies if you have a "loop" going and can't get rid of it. But as a songwriter, and one who generally does not like pop music, ABBA was very very skllled at their craft. The chorus as intro was not and still is not routinely employed by pop songwriters, although some do it. That song with be with us forever.
