My new anthem...

Driftwood (listen...)
by Mark McAdam

Driftwood finds its way to sand
So I'm sure that we will recognize out landmark soon
Wanderlust has lost its shine
It's left me cold and we're running out of time
As we wonder how much longer we can keep our cars in tune
And I only know that I'll new be the boy wonder
It's too late for that sort of thing now
Maybe I'll just cut my losses
In this city that is how we say surrender

Driftwood finds its way to sand
And they're wondering if they'll see a grandson soon
Friends like flies drawn to the light
In ellipses twice as vicious as the times seem cruel

Now if I get carried away I'll get plowed under
So I can't forget that I'll never be the boy wonder
I could just come to my senses then retire to some small town
And just surrender

Driftwood finds its way to sand
So I'm sure that we will recognize our landmark soon

Happy Birthday.

34. "How old would you be…" is RIGHT!
It's a state of mind.

I just turned 45 and I don't think I ever looked better (not that I was ever what you'd call beautiful). The main thing is I don't feel 45.

I've outlived nearly all of my heroes… and when I look at pix of my grandmothers and aunts when they were my age, they look 65 because fashions and hairstyles were so dowdy a few generations ago.

Don't worry about the days behind you; look forward to the ones that are ahead of you. (It's taken me this long to believe that.)

I had my first daughter at 43 and my second birth at 45. After that, I felt younger than I had in a very long time. I'm now 53 and going strong.

40 is sooooo young. Enjoy it!

12. You need to change your parameters. 40 is still on the young half of
90. You have not hit the half-way mark. And in all likelihood you will spend less time after 40 wasting your time being a doormat than you did before 40. So the years are actually better spent. Because you are all present & accounted for.

24. Happy Birthday. Forty is
not old. I was forty before I realized I wasn't twenty anymore. If you want to feel better, listen Paul Simon's "Old." It sure as hell beats his "Old Friends" under the circumstances. Well, here are the lyrics.

"Old"

The first time I heard "peggy sue"
I was 12 years old
Russians up in rocket ships
And the war was cold
Now many wars have come and gone
Genocide still goes on
Buddy holly still goes on
But his catalog was sold

First time I smoked
Guess what - paranoid
First time I heard "satisfaction"
I was young and unemployed
Down the decades every year
Summer leaves and my birthday’s here
And all my friends stand up and cheer
And say man you’re old
Getting old
Old
Getting old

We celebrate the birth of jesus on christmas day
And buddah found nirvana along the lotus way
About 1,500 years ago the messenger mohammed spoke
And his wisdome like a river flowed
Through hills of gold
Wisdome is old
The koran is old
The bible’s
Greatest story ever told

Disagreements?
Work ’em out

The human race walked the earth for 2.7 million
And we estimate the universe at 13-14 billion
When all these numbers tumble into your imagination
Consider that the lord was there beefore creation
God is old
We’re not old
God is old
He made the mold

Take your cloths off
Adam and eve

26. I turned 40 earlier this year. After the initial shock it wasn't that bad
I've been doing all sorts of things to improve my health, and after years of suffering from chronic illnesses I've finally found effective ways of combating them-so I actually feel younger now than I have in years (plus I don't look old because of good genes and Cellex-C ). :-)

Happy big 4-0! :hi:

48. That's a big one (and tough), I hope you can do it this time around
because I'm sure you'd feel considerably better (after a few weeks of feeling like crap). One of the big improvements I made this year was getting off processed foods (including diet soda) and eating all organic meals, which made a huge difference in my energy level and general health. Several people here had posted stories about the food industry that helped me to make the decision to switch to an organic diet-and damn, I can't believe how much better I felt in just a few weeks! The good thing is that prepackaged, minimally processed organic meals are much, much better now then they were ten years ago, and they tend to be considerably more tasty than the conventional stuff.

nearest Geocache. ;) Depending on where you live, I bet there are several within a mile of your house. In a 100-mile radius of my house, there are more than 4000.

It is very, very fun . . . and amazingly addictive. There is something for everyone -- whether you like long hikes in the woods, or are in a wheelchair.

61. Abundant birthday blessings to you, tk2kewl!
I wish you all the best, as you continue to journey through Life. May you be filled with Wisdom, Peace and Self-Love.

Personally, I LOVED turning 40. I decided to mark it in an unusual and symbolic way. For my 40th (last year), I did a tandem skydive, from 18,000 feet. We're talkin' 90 sec. of freefall, at 120mph. It was fantastic and unforgettable! It was something I'd always wanted to do, so I figured why not tie it in with my 40th? It became a wonderful metaphor of jumping into the next phase of my life, with Joy, Surrender and Love. I wrote an intention for myself and my life on a small piece of paper that I released as I was in freefall....sending it out into the ethers...It was VERY cool.

We might as well embrace getting older, and try to do it with as much grace and dignity as possible.

YOU, my friend, are in the PRIME of YOUR LIFE! Enjoy it.....

Sounds like you had quite a 40th! We had a few good days of partying for mine...

My wife threw me a great party, and she got together some musicians from one of her old bands and played a while before turning it over to a cover band.

We also got to see a funny off-broadway musical comedy called "Bush is Bad"

and we caught Mark McAdam and James McMurtry at the Mercury Lounge last night. I hope it's just the aftermath all of the partying that has me feeling old today.

Did he play that song "We Can't Make it Here Anymore"? Whew! That's a powerful one.

Good stuff. Sounds like you had fun, too.

I'm in the middle of planning my hubby's big 50th bd party. He wants to invite about 200 people and have a kaoroke-singing themed party. He's even written a song that he's planning to sing to everybody. It's cool. We're renting a place, hiring a DJ, having it catered, the works. What the hell, it's what he wants and how many times do you turn 50...in THIS lifetime, anyway? :)

Hey, ya gotta mark those big decade ones, right? Congrats on yours, once again.

66. He certainly did play "We Can't Make it Here Anymore"
and a couple of other anti-war songs as well.

His new album really lays out all the ugliness of war and american jingoistic crap.

Mark McAdam had his own anti-bush tune too. I don't think it is recorded yet though.
