Could someone explain to me one thing about the Plame affair |
|
As I understand it, they outed Wilson's wife as a covert CIA agent in order to discredit Wilson, who had publicly rubbished the administration's claim that Iraq had bought uranium ore from Nigeria. They said that he was recommended for the role by his wife.
What I don't understand is, how was that supposed to discredit Wilson and his findings about the fabricated uranium documents anyway?

1. His wife having set up the trip would have cast doubt... |

...on the purity of Wilson's motives. "He had his wife send him over so that he could try to smear the uranium intelligence" was a subtext.
Mainly, though, I believe that the outing was punishment for his dissent, and a warning to anyone else in the intelligence community. The dozens of other people with knowledge of the bogus info had to have been intimidated by that.
