2. Try Mozilla Firebird.....
It rocks and I have pretty much given up IE as a result.

3. I like Netscape 7.0 because...
...tehy came out with this new "tab" thingy. I like having the multiple tabs open so I can monitor seveal threads at once with a minimum of open "windows".

4. Firebird has tabs as well, and built in pop up blocking....
Try it. I been using browsers since Mosaic came along and this one is good!

13. Btw, here's a link to a reg file you will need....
Just unzip the mozilla archive and there is a folder in it you will have to copy to your c:\Program Files directory.

Then run the reg file so that if you have to install any plug-ins it will recognize Firebird.

This is the link to the zip file.

http://downloads.us-east3.mozdev.org/seb/MozillaFirebird-0.7-setup.exe

Here's the link to the reg file. (just double click on it after saving it to disk)

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/resources/firebird.reg

19. Click on the link and save the page it opens
It will save as a file called firebird.reg.

Click that file and it will ask whether you want to add the information in it to your registry. Say yes. That's all you need to do.

25. DarkPhenyx - regarding Netscape 6/7 -

Netscape IS Mozilla - by way of AOL. Believe me - you would be VERY happy with Mozilla - it's much cleaner and nicer than the Netscape series. And enough alike that the switch would be painless to you.

I do technical support and the people that I have put Mozilla on their machines I rarely hear from anymore. In support, that's a GREAT thing :)

5. I switched to mozilla
last week , because of what DU'ers had said about it, and because IE was really starting to bug out. (couldn't search on e-bay, etc)
I'ts been great so far. I do miss my little spell checker gizmo tho'.

6. Mozilla Spellchecker -
Simple fix. You can either download ver. 1.5 (available now!) which has the spellchecker integrated into it, OR

You can go to www.mozdev.org - on the left there are 2 (among others) links to look at - Active Projects, and Inactive Projects. Spellchecker used to be in the active list - but that may have changed. Regardless, it is for SURE in one of those 2 places. lots of other cool add-ons too :)

10. Endless popups is my biggest problem with IE.
And any steps taken to fix it tend to cripple IE.

As someone who spent 2 1/2 years providing support for IE for Microsoft, I can honestly say I am not necessarily bigotted, but I prefer Mozilla Firebird because it has features and security that IE lacks.

12. Based on this thread I just downloaded it and installed
so far I love it. Seems faster the IE could ever be and I do like the tab thing. I have been using Opera and its nice, but I can tell I am going to like the tabs...

22. Actually, their software may suck, but their hardware is pretty nice
Microsoft's hardware division seems to be the opposite of their software division, imo. Their software is bloated, monopolistic, insecure, monoplistic, etc. But their keyboard and mouse product lines are pretty good quality.

15. Ver 7.1
It works fine on the other computer, and the one I have at work, but on this system it isn't letting me log on. Hasn't been for weeks now.

23. Try Avant Browser
If you really must stick with IE.

http://www.avantbrowser.com/

It's like the updated IE that never was. With versatility, pop-up blocking, and the ability to switch off ActiveX, Java and Scripts with one click. Or the ability to block pictures.

I also use Firebird, but not as my default. I really like it - it saps no system resources whatsoever. But I have a problem with java applications on Firebird, so I switch back and forth.

Haven't used Netscape in a while. I've heard they update about as much as IE. IE is behind the times enough, I mean, when was the last update? TWO years ago? Sheesh!

Avant and Mozilla are the way to go.
