Do you believe in Ghosts? |
|
Heck I HOPE this is in the correct forum?
I personally don't believe in ghosts. However, something happened earlier that happens from time to time. It's a specific aroma. A relative of mine used to wear a particular sort of perfume, and now and then in the house, just out of nowhere, I'll smell this perfume, it'll only be there for a very short amount of time, maybe about 20 seconds and then it'll disappear.
It's strange I know and this relative never lived with me either. I suppose it's destined to remain a mystery.

Is my smelling that perfume paranormal?
I must admit, that I don't know a great deal about this particular subject. I just thought I'd share an experience, one that perhaps other people here can relate to and maybe I might hit the jackpot and somebody might be able to explain what my smelling of perfume might mean.

or there may be a physical explanation without recourse to a metaphysical one. How can I say?

Without recourse to a metaphysical one. I'll be contemplating this probably until late afternoon now.

In an old apartment of mine, I had a very mischievous spirit who would take my jewelry and hide it from me. (I did not have cats at the time, and I have a nearly photographic memory, so I would have known if someone had entered my place.) I would take my jewelry off and put it in a box on my dresser. I would find it on a built in bookshelf in the living room.

Fascinating. Was it just jewellery? I wonder what the meaning and significance of that was...

in fact it was mostly a specific pair of earrings.
I never felt unsafe, although I often felt a presence in the apartment. My friends thought I was nuts, but well, maybe they are not so far from the mark on that!

I don't think you're nuts :)
I wonder what they liked about earrings. I must admit, this kind of thing is incredibly fascinating.

I've always wanted to see a ghost but must admit I really don't believe in them. I always said that nothing ghostly has ever happened to me and even if it did, we'd probably just blame it on the cats anyway.
However, a couple of weeks ago, something rather unusual did happen did happen to us. My husband got up on a weekend morning, came downstairs, and flipped on the TV. He checked out a couple of channels, then left it on the History Channel and came to breakfast in the dining room, commenting that there just wasn't anything on. A couple of minutes later we heard the sound go off and, looking in on the TV, saw that the screen was blank with "searching for satellite" written across the bottom. This usually happens when it rains hard so we were a bit puzzled because, although it was cloudy, it sure wasn't raining. A few moments later the TV came back on to an entirely different channel. Not just to a different channel but to the West Virginia game which my husband would certainly have been watching had he not thought it was on much later in the day. It was like when he said there was nothing on, something out there said, "Oh yes there is!" and switched it to the right channel.

Bizarre and freaky.
I don't really believe in ghosts per se, but if I did see something I'm not sure what I'd do...probably I'd go and hide.

I still think it is, too.
:scared:
And everyone thinks that our school auditorium is haunted. Our school is about seventy or so years old, and someone hung themselves in the upper section of the seats. I've never seen anything, but when I was up performing with the seventh grade band, I felt very uncomfortable. I don't ever get stage fright, but I did feel like there was something in the room that wasn't supposed to be. Either that, or the guy next to me farted.

that nothing I've seen/heard/read/felt convinces me of their existence.

I have had many experiences with that stuff. The house I grew up in had spirits in it and we all had stuff happen. My father was the only one that never did but he never wrote it off, he would just listen.
In the last few years he has had a few things happen and now he believes what we were saying. My nephew lives with them and has had some of the same stuff happen as we did when we were kids.

20. Olfactory hallucinations, whilst uncommon, do happen |
|
I've met a couple of schizophrenics who've experienced it (& one was related to the perfume his mother wore) and there's a DUer with schizoaffective disorder who reported likewise. (I'm not suggesting you need to see a shrink :), it's just that that's the circle I've been moving in recently.)
And no, I don't believe in ghosts.
And no, I'm not stalking you!

when my father died of a massive heart attack, I stayed with my mom for two months. He died in the bedroom. My mom and dad had a Yorky named Peanut, and after his death, she'd go out in the hall and start barking. It happened every night after his death. Peanut died of heart failure on my dad's chair less than six months later. Mom told me that she has come home and found the light on in the guest bedroom, she hardly goes into the bedroom, and the photo of my great grandmother and grandfather disappeared off of the fireplace mantel. She still can't find it. Her friend was cleaning the windows outside and at the corner of his eye, saw a man wearing a baseball cap, he thought it was the next door neighbor, when he turned, there was no one there. She's had other experiences in the house, but it has been over ten years, and things are quiet now.

The house i grew up in - I will just give the highlights. I saw a ghost - it was an elderly lady, translucent and floating in the door. My parents were divorced, on one weekend I was at my mother's, my uncle stayed at my dads and slept in my bed. he found himself floating about 5 inches from the ceiling. My sister saw things float from one dresser to another... The TV turned itself on...
Now, in the house I am living in, i sense a spirit. I haven't seen one, my b/f did. Radios do turn on by themselves or switch channels.
I don't really feel scared - I feel kind of protected if that makes any sense.
I believe it is very possible that the aroma that you sense is a super natural.
