Some Interesting Poll Numbers....about Rush Limbaugh of all people
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 10:59 AM by Magic Rat
Found this in the Washington Post today...

"A new Gallop Poll conducted Nov. 10-12 shows that just 34% of Americans hold a favorable view of Limbaugh, while 51% hold an unfavorable view. 51% of conservatives hold a favorable opinion of him - compared to just 12% of liberals (who are these 12%?!?!?). At the same time, 35% of conservatives hold an unfavorable view of Limbaugh (along with 75% of liberals)."

Pretty intersting, huh? Looks like Rush ain't all that popular afterall. Even with conservatives.

1. But Clear Channel won't syndicate Randi Rhodes
who beats him in the ratings in all groups.

2. USA Today also had a poll - 52% "never respected" Rush
Personally, I think the impact of Rush Limbaugh is way over estimated. He lives in the big dittohead echo chamber.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/2003-11-17-rush-limbaugh_x.htm

A new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll of 1,004 adults finds that 52% "never respected" Limbaugh and still don't, while 26% respected him and still do, despite drug abuse. Eight percent said they lost respect; 13% had no opinion.

3. This is why, IMHO, DU'ers spend way too much time........
focusing our resentment on idiots like Rush and his followers.

It's better to concentrate our attention on educating swing voters and the like.

Bashing the neocons and their zombie-like followers is like shooting fish in a barrel.

4. I agree with that assessment.
I tried to make a similar point right after I joined DU -- I made the comment that "Rush is just a radio guy" and was promptly excoriated for my heresy.

According to some, I didn't "get it" and my ignorance proved that I was "part of the problem." Apparently he's an omnipotent menace whose followers are a hair's breadth away from world domination.

5. Every now and then I like to make the point that....
..it's the middle third that decides elections.

But most people here think it's well worth their time and effort to lambaste (haven't used that word in a while) nutcases like Rush and Hannity.

It's funny, and I enjoy it. But it doesn't accomplish much.

Cheers.

6. I believe it accomplishes more than you think
If those of us who practice the art of lambasting rush (and I do want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to use that word too) didn't do anything, rush's poll numbers would be a little more favorable for him than they are now.

He'll always have his hardcore audience that follows him no matter what he does with goats and small children. But he's big enough to appeal to part of that middle third you speak of. Without us to denounce him and call him on his lies, it may be him that swings the vote of the middle third, not us.

7. I don't disagree with that....
I just think that the time and energy should be better spent.

Lambaste. Lambaste. Lambaste. (accent on the "baste") LOL!!!!

8. I'll do both
Lambasting rush isn't a full time job, since he makes it so damn easy. :D

(lambaste...lambaste...lambaste)
