My hate mail
If you ever visit my web site, you'll see that I'm very partisan and not at all fair and balanced. And since I'm a veteran that opposes the current military operation in Iraq, I get hate mail. I thought I'd share it with everyone. Very mean-spirited. You see, vets who oppose the war are not "real" vets.

"How dare an unpatriotic prick like yourself lump members of left-wing organizations such as Vets for Peace in with the real vets who are honored on Vets Day. Vet Day parades are organized to honor veterans, not to protest government policy. If these sham vet organizations want to protest, then they should be staging rallies in Washington instead of disrupting parades honoring men and women who have fought and served out nation. If a waitress from Hooters is at a parade with the intent of honoring our vets, then she has much more right to be there then some disenchanted ex-military member who uses such a parade as an outlet for their venomous hatred of our government (much like you). The men and women who are now proudly serving in our military deserve much better than having to listen to the treasonous bullshit coming out of the mouths of small-minded people like you and your fellow "vets for peace". Shame on you all."

It's a good read, isn't it? Typical right-wing bullshit. I'm guessing the author of the e-mail has never worn a uniform.

1. Pathetic.
I'd say it's a virtual certainty this idiot never wore a uniform. Note how he can't bring himself to call you a veteran - you're a "disenchanted ex-military member". LOL, and wasn't it just a few years ago that right-wingers were PROUD of their "venomous hatred" of Clinton?

P.S. Thank you for your service to our country.

4. Thanks for the thanks...

Thank you for the thank you! I would expect that there are many vets here at DU, and we all served our country with pride. We just oppose the needless slaughter of American and allied soldiers, and Iraqi civilians, in Bush's sham war.

This will come as no surprise, the message was sent via the George Mason Society's anonymous remailer service. The cowards that write to me don't even have the balls to do so with their real names and real e-mail addresses.

2. I'll bet your right
As a former vet myself I am totally against this insane war. Hooters indeed! Yes, just where women belong...marching in a parade with their wares displayed for dirty men and Gropanators alike. Give that man a gun and tell his cowardly yellow butt to serve his country. He'd back out fast.

3. Are the 58,000 who died in Vietnam considered veterans?
How many of them do you think would support this war?

5. Oh I didn't realize an anti-war vet wasn't a real vet
I guess it's not about experience, it's about opinion

6. What a shame that you must endure such vitriol.
Amazing, isn't it? How Veterans for Peace, people who bravely served their country are condemned, yet the Lay-Z-Boy warriors, who have never served, smugly grope their flags and spew their hate. So very sad. :-(

7. Hmm, I thought the whole point of fighting a war
was so that later generations wouldn't have to.

8. Damn skippy! This Gulf War vet is against ANY war which is
fought to enrich corporations like Halliburton and Bechtel. Against any war fought to recapture the Chimp's post-9/11 approval ratings. Don't worry, Scott. Real veterans hate war because they've seen it up-close instead of from the comfort of their livingroom, crashed out in front of Faux News. It's the armchair warriors who send the hate mail.

God Bless all our veterans; especially the ones who stand up for peace!

11. Amen, brother!
I'm also a Gulf war vet. So far I've received five pieces of anonymous hate mail, all attacking me for being a veteran that has spoken out against the Bush administration's snipe hunt in Iraq.

I don't understand why right-wingers are so keen for thousands of Americans and Iraqis to be killed, maimed or left disabled for life.

Grrrr....

9. That is just so sad
<begin soapbox mode>

It's terrifying to see how your once-great land has become so badly split down the middle, probably the worst since 1860. For the love of God, vote that imposter out of the White House before it's too late, for both the USA and the world.

<end soapbox mode>

10. I'd like to see them say that
to my ex-Marine Vietnam combat-veteran husband's face, that he wasn't a "real" veteran because he opposes having our troops sent to fight and die for Halliburton's obscene profits and PNAC's bullshit agenda.

Actually, no, I wouldn't - I'd rather he stayed out of prison for murder. Even justifiable homocide.

There is one weird thing about that note, though - they spelled everything right! I'm not used to wingnuts who know how to use spellcheck.

12. Last March, I did an anti-war special on my '60s soul music radio show.
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 12:00 AM by NightTrain
It was right after King George the Lesser's war began. All the music I played that night was soul-era protest songs like Edwin Starr's "War" and Stevie Wonder's "Heaven Help Us All." I went on the microphone between sets of music to voice my opposition to what I called "the cynically-named Operation Iraqi Freedom."

I also invited my listeners to call me on the air and give their opinions. And boy, did they ever! I got well over 20 calls during my two-hour shift, which was a hell of a lot more than I usually got (mainly because I normally don't like to be bothered when I'm on the air and never give the studio number out). I told my listeners that they were welcome to call me whether they opposed the war, favored it, or were straddling the fence.

One of the calls I received was from a veteran who told me, "I went to Vietnam when I was 20 years old. I'm 55 now, and sometimes I still have nightmares."

Thirty-five years of nightmares about what he saw and experienced in Vietnam. I can't begin to imagine the kind of trauma that would inflict such psychological damage on a person.

I wonder how your Dittohead detractor would feel about what that Vietnam vet told me?
