Best/easiest way to convert old LPs to digital/CD?
I've read a little about Magix software, and the need for an "RCA cable". Any pointers?

Does an RCA cable work both ways? (i.e. is it the same thing I've got going out of my PC to my speakers?)

Is there a cheap (or even pre-loaded) software that easily converts such files to MP3, or some other format that could then be recorded to CD?

1. IRiver MP3 player
It has an input that allows you to turn any sound source (din stereo plug) into an mp3. From there just DL it to your computer and fire up your favorite burning software.

3. Does it allow you to split up recordings into several MP3s?
i.e. just let it record an entire LP side and then split it up in the PC later? This would be MUCH easier.

Also, is a "din stereo plug" just a typical L/R stereo jack?

7. Use
You can stop and start it at will so spacing is a matter of monitoring. And yes the plug is a typical two channel stereo plug.

2. You need to look at
the rear of each machine and determine what type of cable it uses for line output (audio feed from the playback device to an amplifier or other recording device).

Then you get to play the "match the ports" game.

Question for others who respond: What, exactly, is SPDIF for?

4. SPDIF is coaxial (RCA) digital
It allows you to send or receive digital audio that hasn't been converted to another format (analog, optical, etc.).

Usually, only Pro gear has SPDIF.

5. I've a whole bunch of LP's to convert
and still haven't started. However, I've found something called LP Ripper that looks pretty good.

You can record whole sides of your LP's, then this thing will snip it into tracks for you.

9. I dislike MP3s and recording via a computer is a hassle
I have an audio CD recorder; it connects to my receiver. It can burn CD-to-CD or burn from any other audio source connected to the receiver. It was quite inexpensive, and to my ear, the recordings are far superior. The one drawback is that the blank CDs cost a bit more, as you have to buy audio recordables, not standard data CD-R's.
