REally? I remember seeing the Redskins and the Cowboys ON the TV while we were still out and about which would have meant that it was at least 8 PM (MNF used to come on at 8 eastern)

Last night I was on door duty and at 7:30 our neighbors huge display went OUT and no one came around anymore after that. I figured about 8 PM but bam! lights out at 7:30

This was our first Halloween out in the 'burbs and we WAY over bought on candy. I was really looking forward to it but I thought it would last a little longer.

7. I have noticed in the past that they start/end earlier if it is a
school night.

Sixth graders here have to catch the bus at 6:45, so I can see that they would want to be done by 8ish to shower, etc.

4. I was expecting more kids too
The last one came around 8 p.m. It was a really beautiful day here- I thought there would be more kids out both earlier and later. Oh well. My daughter made up about 15 "goody bags" with our leftovers and brought them in to school today for her friends.

8. A lot of communities went to daylight hours...
Milwaukee had Sunday trick-or-treating, 1 to 4. (I didn't get any trick-or-treaters, but I live in an area where there aren't many children.)

One neighborhood got permission to go 4 to 7, so there was some darkness for them. I know quite a few people who trick-or-treated in both areas and got double the take.

I think my old community went 4 to 7 or 5 to 8, on Halloween no matter what day of the week it was.

I do like setting limits -- otherwise, and especially on weekends, you could get kids all day. But I'm not sure about Sunday daylight stuff. Seems less fun. (Then again, it migth have the net effect of making it better for the little kids.)

9. I was expecting them both days
I was expecting at least SOME to make the rounds Sunday night but apparently the neighborhood I live in really are that conditioned.

I was driving to work last week and every car was going exactly the same speed. Now I don't RACE everywhere but I found this odd. Even stranger was that everyone was going exactly 25 MPH. This happened several days in a row (I left for work at the same time) and then it hit me....I was passing a school. My wife told me that several years ago the county cops really cracked down on school zone speeding and it seems to still have that much of an effect. Overall of course that is good but it was a bit to robotic and groupthink for my tastes.

and we had more kids than usual since the weather was so nice and there isn't as much candy left over as usual. They send the firetrucks around to light the way in our smallish community, which is kind of cool.

the traffic prior to getting home was horrible, though, and I still had to carve the pumpkin. My son handed out candy though, in his costume, before I took him out, and that was pretty cool.

Did you dress up the little one? I love those baby costumes!

When your kid starts walking around at her school, you will slow down in the school zone and yell at those who don't, trust me. ;)
