Who Loves Christmas?
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 04:51 PM by rene moon
Since it seems as if to be a Christmas-lovin' liberal is rare on this board, I had to come out.

I love Christams! I love everything about it. The songs, decoartions, food, spending time with friends. My Mom made a big deal about Christmas and now that I have my own household, I do too.

I love a Charlie Brown Christmas, it's my favorite.

Yeah, we are pressured to buy gifts but who says you have to? Why not just enjoy the season?

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

2. I do too! I love everything but the commercialism and that it now starts
in flippin' August, when the retailers should be putting out back to school stuff...
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Grinch, Charlie Brown, all that stuff is great...
I love it all, except for taking down the tree on Epiphany...

19. I pulled out my decorations last week, and bought my (fake) tree
3 weeks ago. I haven't put it up yet, and will WAIT IN AGONY until December 12th to put it up.

In the meantime, this weekend, I start trimming the front porch with lights and ribbon and trimming displays.

As an experiment I already hung my new stars-on-strings (from Ikea) in ONE of the front windows (binder clips ROCK) but haven't plugged them in YET.

The colors this year are turqoise and white, since I have to vary the color theme annually. And, I um, have to wrap the packages to match the color theme of the tree decor.

I wrap the packages, no one else does. They have to be perfect. They have to match. I have serious issues about this.

21. I polled here on whether to buy a fake tree or not and the fake won...
the one I found is a very nice quality, and will save the life of one more tree this year.

14. I love it
I can't wait to get the tree (actually, it's a New Year's tree in my house ... ). I love the spirit. I love the Christmas season in New York City (From Thanksgiving until the ball drops). I love the Rockefeller Center tree. I like it that most people treat each other a bit better.

This Jewish atheist boy loves Christmas (and New Year's). I just wish it would snow in San Francisco.

15. ONE LIGHT this holiday season
Put a single holiday light in one window of your home this Christmas. At least until the troops come home.

Get Christmas back to its core.

When you gaud up your house with 10,000 lights, you finance Mideast terrorism with your electricity consumption.

Bet you won't see that PSA on your TV this season ...

if I didn't have 2 small children, I would.
I love Christmas. For me, it is a spiritual, magical season filled with memories of warmth and family. I hate the fact that it's become over-commercialized.... but, since it has, I hate to deny my children their tacky decorations.

I'll keep the exterior of our home low-key, but I can't totally not decorate.

17. Me, me, me.....
I love it more now that I have kids than I ever loved it as a kid myself. The excitement of Christmas Eve and seeing thoise faces glow when they open presents is a yearly highlight for me.

I will probably start putting up the lights outside this weekend. We will get our tree Thanksgiving weekend. I can't wait.

18. I like getting a couple of days off work
Never much cared for the rest of it. I don't visit family - we aren't on those kind of terms, and those people aren't healthy for me, and the rest of the celebration is too Christian for this pagan. I exchange a few gifts with my husband and my stepsons, but I wouldn't even put up a tree if my husband didn't insist.

I do like getting my lighthouse ornaments out, though.

22. Count me in!
My favorite part these days is the way my family makes my nieces and nephews wait until after our early-afternoon Christmas dinner to open presents. They're all teens and up now, but back in they day, the anticipation tormented them in the sweetest way. Reminds me of when I was a kid.

I could give a rat's ass about presents anymore. I just love spending a relaxing couple of days with my family (no, seriously)!

30. Not my thing
Being Jewish has pretty much eliminated any loyalty to the holiday.

Sorry.

I'll be lighting the Chanukah candles the evening of Dec. 19.

I have a little dreidel, I made it out of clay
and when it's dry and ready oh dreidel I shall play
oh dreidel dreidel dreidel
I made it out of clay
oh dreidel dreidel dreidel
now dreidel I shall play.

Happy Chanukah!

32. Not one bloody thing about it.
Remember, EVERY one is not programmed for this nonsense. I have always found it amazing and annoying to watch people who are, however. I do not understand any of it.

But this year I will be in FLA, on the beach that day, paying absolutely no attention to any of it.

36. Ok, that's great
But don't look down on those who do. What I don't understand is why someone who doesn't like Christmas and will pay "absolutely no attention to any of it" come and post on a "Who Loves Christmas" post!

Have fun in Florida!

33. I love being with my family and we all reject the commercialism so that's
even better. Sometimes some of us have gifts for some of us; usually at least one sub-family has no money for anything....this year I think that will be all of us....and none of us cares at all. Gifts are great; families are greater gifts. We all debate endlessly on all kinds of topics and no one thinks the worse of anyone no matter the conflict of opinion. We are addicted to strong opinions and debating them. It helps that all of us, including in-laws, are Democrats, I suppose!!!

35. Another Pagan for Christmas!
Now that I have a child I am much more involved in every holiday, and there's quite a sampling in our household! I can't wait to make a gingerbread house, decorate the tree, make cookies for the neighbor's,--and seeing a baby's joy at the smallest things. I can't wait any longer; we are decorating the gingerbread house tonight!

Despite the commercialism, people bearing gifts, good will, and peace, in the name of whomever, is a beautiful thing. We humans are cool like that.
