Web Background check

Does anyone know how to do a background search on the web without paying a service to do it for you?

The only information I want is public record. I'm not used to hiring people or checking people's backgrounds. Don't really like the idea of it, but this employment involves caring for a child and applicant agreed to backgound search.

A background check involves information that is not publicly available, so therefore, it is not on the internet without a fee.

If you are checking someone who is going to be caring for a child, a background check is an absolute. That way, you can determine if the person has been arrested/convicted of a crime involving a minor.

you will get a ton of hits. I would choose based on price and how thorough.
