My teenager totally kicked freeper ass yesterday in school. |
|
In French class, no less.
They started having a discussion about the whole 'freedom fries' crapola and the anti-French sentiment and she stood up and asked
"Who here is a democrat?" Five kids raised their hands. She said, "me, too, and guess what, you freepers (yes, she learned that term from me), the six of us are the ones with the A's"
She totally refuted each RW talking point they brought up and the libs in the class gave her a standing ovation.
And, here I thought it was falling on deaf ears.
Now, if I can only get her to join DU.

That's her job as a teenager; to carve out her own space in the world. ... explains so many teen pregnancies. Bravo for her.

sometimes what we say does sink in even though it doesn't appear to. my son, had to do a paper on his thoughts of an editorial about hurricane katrina. he wrote a great left leaning paper using many of the talking points we talked about at dinner that i thought he was just ignoring.

It's funny, though, how these close-minded extremists are always the last to figure things out. One of my classes has an anti-choice, pro-Bush dick in it and, funny enough, he's possibly the absolute worst student there (can't spell, can't think, holds up the class because he can't understand the prof...).
Again, kudos to you and your daughter!

17. Well, last year, my now nine year old was asked for a quote |
|
for the yearbook
"What qualities do you think the President should have?"
Her answer:
The President needs to be a liberal and care about the poor.
w00t.
All this in a red state. I am feeling positively giddy. My son can even hold his own with adults. Just states facts and they back right down.
Maybe I should call the dems in Congress and give them lessons?

If you throw enough shit around, some of it sticks.
It doesn't hurt that my entire family is comprised of liberals, except for poor old addled Grandpa, but he is my husband's father. Mine was a liberal back when liberal wasn't a dirty word.
Thanksgiving promises to be interesting, because we always have a great Bush bashing session whenever we get together. One of my brothers is convinced I am going to end up at Gitmo as a subversive.
How funny would that be? Middle aged liberal mom, a terrorist?

21. nice! one of my nieces is an exchange student in France |
|
raised in a strong liberal Catholic family she chose to take on being sort of a teenage ambassador.
It has been a hard couple of months for her so far with most of the teens at school teasing her about what a moran Bush is and they joke about where Bin Laden is hiding when whe walks by but she is having success turning some minds around. With courage and intelligence, she is showing them that not all Americans support the Bush Administration and everything it stands for. Her History teacher has been great in helping her get her points across to the classroom when her French is less than perfect and he lets the class know how lucky they are to have her and her perspective.
It's hard werk and all ;) but an experience that she'll carry forever and be stronger for it.

35. That's great. Historically, where and when did this French hate begin |
|
in the USA? Were they smeared by the media? How did it start and why does it exist today. Are a lot of people jealous of the French? The English won the French Indian war otherwise tons of us wouldn't even be here. My mom's ancestors came over on the Mayflower (or so I was told, but my grandmother said a lot of things). But my dad's ancestors came over in 1775 and wouldn't have if the French had won.
