1. Usually, an antibiotic creme.
And you can wash your eye with mild boric-acid solution to relieve the discomfort, or 'patch' it. Don't rub it and wash your hands every time you touch it.

4. And if you wear contacts
I think you have to throw them out. You definitely need to see a doctor. It is very contagious. Get better soon!

3. You need to go get
eye drops from the doctor to clear it up. It is highly contagious and could lead to more serious problems if you don't get it treated.

Sorry. :-(

5. It's almost always viral,
so the antibiotics won't work. Suffer. It too shall pass. & it's major league contagious. Everybody you know will soon come down with it. ~sigh~ sorry for the bad news.

7. DON'T RUB YOUR EYE!!!
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 07:27 PM by Heddi
Keep a bottle of alcohol with you, and wipe down ANYTHING you touch immediately after you touch it.

I worked in an office once and a girl there had pinkeye. Within the span of 2 weeks, EVERYONE ELSE got pink eye from her.

So the boss mandated that we constantly wipe down the keyboards, desk-space, telephones AS SOON AS WE GOT DONE USING THEM.

It's VERY contagious.

See your doctor. THey'll give you drops for your eyes, and maybe an antibiotic (depending on how severe it is).

Because your eyes 'leak', especially at night, you may want to wash your pillow cases & blankets & sheets daily. Seriously---if your eye 'leaks' on any of those surfaces, there is a good chance you can re-infect yourself, or infect the other eye :( Also, use a new washcloth when you take a shower--again, any bacteria remaining on the washcloth could reinfect you.

Just be very very careful, and tho it may be embarassing and akward, tell people that you work in close contact with or live with that you have the pink eye so that they can take precautions.

Be warned also that when you wake up in the AM, your eye may have a SERIOUS case of eye-goo-clumping, to the point where your eye may be goo-glued shut. To un-glue it, take a wash-cloth, soak in warm water, and place on your eye for a few minutes to soften the crust, and gently wipe it away. Don't pull it off or anything like that, as you can damage your eye possibly.

Also, make sure the crust is adequately disposed of, and that the washcloth you used is immediately dispatched to the nearest clothes-hamper.

Good luck!

On edit---as someone above stated, pinkeye is generally viral, so the antibiotics are generally only given if you have an infection stemming from the pinkeye (torn cornea from scratching, infected skin around eyelid from scratching, etc)

8. Relief X 2 by Camomile Tea:
1. Make a cup of camomile tea. It's soothing and relaxes you.
2. Let the teabag cool and then put it on your eye when you lie down like a compress. It will make it feel less irritated. I'm not sure about it being a cure, but it will improve your condition somewhat.

Feel better.

so wash your hands after touching your eye. If you have kids...be careful or they will soon have it. Go to your eye doctor for an eye drop like TobraDex. :)

11. pink eye
Amp up your vitamin C to 3-4000 units a day. Also a multi B stress formula supplement. Then buy some powdered boric acid and make a solution fresh each time with sterile water and bath your eye with it and make sure you get it into the crease of upper and lower lids. Get totally conscious about your hands touching it. Also, use antiseptic wipes to wash your hands and keep the phone from coming into contact with your face unless you wipe it clean. good luck

12. See a doctor, immediately
please, Dem Fan.

My daughter was diagnosed with pinkeye last February. It was an incorrect diagnosis. She had an infection called Uveitis, which permanently damaged her optic nerve -and she is now blind in one eye. Don't screw around with this - see a good doctor, and ask questions.

I didn't know Uveitis existed before it hit my daughter - but it's the third leading cause of blindness. Pinkeye is a common misdiagnosis.
