5. Some of those "English Us (yuuus) have their proper place...
Some, like the one they put in "color", are kind of superfluous.

On the other hand, the one they use in "neighbour", and in "behaviour", seem to "fit' pretty well.

B-)

23. In ND, we NEVER use "theater". It's always "theatre".
I was reading an article about historic theatres in Notrth Dakota posted in the architecture office at my campus, and they always spelled it "theatre".

9. Seems like a bit of an affectation for 'Murikans to spell like Brits...
Interestingly, neo-confederates prefer to use British spellings, also, as many of the documents from the Civil War era employ them.

I don't know, but if some Yank with no Brit connections is spelling words like "neighbour" and "colour" and "tyre" and "pyjamas" and "privatize," well, I'd wonder what the deal was.

Exception -- SOteric can use all the British spellings she desires. She writes so beautifully, I don't care! :hi:

11. In grad school I got in a big fight with a prof over this.
In a term paper, I spelled 'favor' as 'favour'. She counted several points off, and we went at it. Pointing out that this was the Oxford English version, I maintained that it was a valid variation. No slack.

I would never count off for that on term papers I grade, obviously.

19. Oooh, I'd better watch out for that...
Hypothetically speaking, I might find my Canadian self in an American grad school someday. If they give me shit for my point-correct (and patriotic) Canadian spelling, I might just get a little upset. I mean, I *can* spell American standard, if I want to, but most of the time, *I don't want to!* It's my shibboleth, and I like it!

21. Where I'm from, you could use either spelling.
I'm 160 miles from the Canadian border, and there's some Manitoban influence here.
