complaints and recommendations for DU

i've been a member for a little over a year, and reader for maybe two. i really love DU and everything it has to offer, especially the LBN section and the DU groups. but, i must say, i do have a few complaints and recommendations to improve it. i was wondering if anyone else had any complaints/recommendations.

1. i don't understand the need for 2 general discussion forums and a lounge forum. i understand moving topics that don't pertain to politics to the lounge, but it seems to me that the general discussion page pertains to politics anyway. so why do we need a "general discussion: politics" forum too? why not just condense the two?

2. i wish people would make more use of the DU groups. they are a great idea and there are a ton of them. i'm just tired of seeing people ask questions about their computer in the lounge instead of the "computer help & support" group. when people post these elsewhere it kinda negates the reason for having the groups in the first place.

any thoughts?

1. GD split in the 2004 primaries, when the eastern section of DU refused to recognize the primacy of the presumable candidate until the primaries had been completed.

2. People put threads where they think people will see them. The lounge is tle place for that.

Folks can only post into DU groups if they are donors. There are many posters who have, for example, computer issues who aren't donors. There is also a large contingent of posters who only browse the main forums.

i didn't realize you had to be a donor to post in the groups. that explains that.

6. remember, you can always ask Admin about these things

just send a mail to [e-mail] Skinner, Earl-G, and Elad are always very accomodating to friendly questions about the running of the DU.
