"Dude, Where's My Country?"
Is this book worth buying? I've heard some good reviews, but I still don't know if I want to pay money for it yet. Would it be worth my time?

1. Probably
Don't forget to check out "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" too.

2. yes
Funny, but full of great talking points such as: The Saudis and their connections to 9/11?

Buy it now. It is a bestseller and should be 30% at your local B&N or independent bookstore (they may not have it discounted, but it is worth it to help them out).

3. Eh, I'd pass.
I'd also recommend "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" over Moore's book. It's a decent quick read, but I thought it was a bit low on footnotes and was even a bit dull at times.

Franken's book, on the other hand, was hilarious and informative. Eric Alterman's "What Liberal Media?" is another funny and insightful read.

4. Not Mike's best work
It's not as good as "Stupid White Men." Definitely not as good as Franken's "Lies." In reading it, it feels like it was rushed -- like Mike typed it out as fast as he could. I saw him interviewed on C-Span and he said it took about two months to write (and eight months to research). Maybe he was distracted with getting his next movie going? I don't know.

6. Very good
shorter than I wanted it to be, but pretty good. Not as good as Stupid White Men thought. And if you buy it at Cosco then it's only like 14 dollars. Good deal :)

7. Check out your library
Mine had a copy, but if they don't, they will find one for you. Libraries are our friends...

8. i found it disappointing..
i'd imagine it would be a very enlightening read for someone who isn't heavily into politics and the nature of bushco. I found myself skipping through tons of it going "yeah, yeah, yeah' to myself.

has some good stuff, but not overall a very strong work. franken's is much better.

9. I agree...
And that is why I was glad I only borrowed it from the library. Parts were good but a huge bunch of it was material that I already knew about. Gee, you can learn a lot from DU.

11. I'm doing them as Audio books for the long bus commutes....
I get carsick if I read on a moving vehicle, so audio books are my friends.

Dude is pretty good for that but I keep finding that I have to rewind and take notes to check out later and he's raising a lot of questions I already had to a fever pitch.

I'm finding that I prefer Lies and the.... for the entertainment value. Franken has a better delivery.

Greg Palast is better as far as source material goes (The Best Democracy Money can buy and others) since MM relied on his research. Joe Conason is more scholarly.

All of them are good, in my opinion, but things I've thought before. For me, they were preaching to the choir. On the other hand, they were helpful in convincing my friend the independent that next november she needs to vote against the unfortunate reality squatting at 1600 PA Ave.

YMMV,
