Poll question: Do You Have Any Phobias?
I'm afraid of heights and flying insects, specifically yellow jackets.

What gives you the willies?

2. Left turns with no green arrow.
Fifteen or so years ago a guy going too fast swerved around me as I had my nose out trying to make a left turn. He went up on the curb and hit a light pole.

6. Fire.
I'm terrified of being burned to death. I also have periodic dreams about drowning, but not quite as scared of that.

7. Large expanses of water scare me to death.
Like out in the middle of the ocean, or icebergs or shelves under water, or anything like that... scares the hell out of me. I can't even look at them in magazines like National Geographic.

I think that proves just how frightening 'Jaws' can be to a little kid. It scars them for life.

9. Heights, sort of
I don't mind being up 50 stories in a building. But have me go out on a balcony that high and I lose it. I have this fear that I'm going to jump. And being up on a cliff doesn't really effect me much, either.

13. Speaking in public is my phobia :
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 10:07 AM by CarolinaPeridot
But yet ask me why I study Political Science and hope to be a leader someday :eyes: . I took theatre classes to force myself to be opened to talking in public and it is helping . I would seriously find ways to get out of school whenever we had to present reports . Ask me to play my Clarinet in public , that I can do . But speak , I run .

15. I'm not afraid of water
and I know how to swim, but I am afraid of drowning. Like I will probably never go white-water rafting. Funny thing is, I used to surf, and want to start again.

16. I got two phobias(and a third semi joke one)
Dentists and needles. Sounds fairly typical. Basically the dentist has to gas me into oblivion for their own safety. Novicane has no to negative effect on me (it actually seems to focus the attention and pain). Kinda sensitive about things going in my mouth. Shrarp things are even worse.

Now throw into this volitale mix a dentist brought up on charges of having kidnapped, drugged, and sexually molested one of his patients. I have not been back to a dentist in almost two years now and my teeth are rotting out of my head. Phobias are nasty enough without real life monsters making them worse. Sheesh.

19. You should have put elevators on the poll
Lots of people are scared of lifts (not me, I ride them prob 6-12 times a day).

Ive discovered that once I figured out/read how something works, I am not afraid of it. Applied to cieling fans, lifts, airplanes, shower drains, etc...

22. Writing & 9 to 5 work
I want to be a writer so badly...but every sentence is like pulling teeth. My last essay took two weeks of two hours a day minimum.
I'm scared that people will see my writing and think I'm a fool. So I agonize over every comma, checking and re-checking is infinitely.

And I hate the idea of 9 to 5 jobs. Every day the same office, the same people, the same ass-kissing. I would go postal.
