What was your last 'Random Acts of Kindness'
This is something we should do often - a Random Act of Kindness. A nice gesture towards someone you might not know. Maybe if we did more of this we'd live in a world with more peace.

My last Random Act of Kindness was last Thursday. I was leaving work during that massive windstorm we were having in the Philly area. My car was in the parking lot next to my building, but we also have another parking lot that is about a third of a mile away and you can either walk to it or wait for the shuttle. It was late in the evening (around 7pm) and the shuttle doesn't make the trip as often. I saw someone waiting for the shuttle and in the cold and windy weather. So I asked him if he needed a ride down to the lower parking lot and offered to help him. He took me up on it.

No idea who the guy was but he was greatful to get to his car and get home to his family.

So what was your last Random Act of Kindness

1. What a nice pick-me-up.
I think my last was donating to DU so that someone could get a star. Anonymously, of course. ;-)

2. I was in the parking lot of the grocery store loading my trunk.
As I was pushing my cart back to the front of the store I saw a women trying to juggle her groceries, a baby, the cart & a small child. I walked over and asked to help. Loaded her groceries and took the cart back for her. She started crying when she said thank you. She just seemed stressed beyond her limit and seemed really touched by my small bit of help.

3. Other than plugging the meter...
...when I see the meter readers coming, the last one of significance was a year ago.

I was checking out at a retail store, and the cashier was in the middle of a blinding headache. She was miserable. I suggested she ask for a break so she could take some medication, and she told me she wasn't allowed. I went two doors down, got her some motrin and a bottle of water so she could take it from her station.

I could have bitched at her manager, but I figured it was better to solve the problem and not make the employee look like a troublemaker.

Later,
JM

6. My Wife and I Were Walking In To JC Penneys....
...at the Citadel Mall in Colorado Springs. An older woman with a walker was also approaching the doors. I opened the door for my wife, and held it open for the woman with the walker. And my wife held the inside door open for her.

From the look on the woman's face, not many people had been doing that for her lately. She thanked us profusely, and it felt pretty damn good.

7. Not killing any of the idiot drivers on the road today.
That took every bit of my patience and restraint.

8. I'm ashamed to say
I can't remember my last random act of kindness.

Unless you count inviting a co-worker to Thanksgiving dinner. She won't be making the trip to DC to be w/ her parents. I didn't want her to be alone. She's such a nice person.

9. This morning at the bus stop
We're having a real gully-washer today in Portland, first real rain in a long time (Oregonians will know what I'm talking about). The drain at the corner near my bus stop was totally clogged with leaves, debris and a plastic bag, and the water was beginning to overwhelm the entire street.

Wish I'd had a putter or a five iron, but I stuck my hand into the mess, and cleared enough debris as the bus pulled up to get the drain working again, at least for now. I'm kind of soggy right now, but it's a good soggy.

11. I'm not sure...
We collected money at our flea market for the Humane Society in Iron River Michigan (the same one that we've been trying to help out for the last couple of weeks).

I honestly try to do something good for someone at least once a day. Be it pushing a rack at work to help the lady in the bakery (who is normally pushing her limits beyong belief...two jobs, 4 kids...) or just giving aspirin from my bottle of 500 to a fellow employee who isn't feeling up to snuff.

Does giving a free glass of milk to a mom (for her baby) staying at the hotel instead of charging her $2.75 plus $2.75 for the service charge plus tax plus gratuity count as an act of kindness?
