(Poll) If you knew the identity of a person who had received MREs...
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 12:01 AM by Maddy McCall
If you knew the identity of a local person who was selling MREs that she received during the aftermath of Katrina (MREs that specifically say on the packaging "Property of the US Government, Not for Resale), what would you do?

Option 1: I wouldn't do anything because I don't see anything wrong with selling hurricane relief items on the internet.

Option 2: I think it's despicable, but I would do nothing and fahget about it.

Option 3: What a greedy thing to do, with so many people still needing assistance in the Gulf region, attempting to profit on hurricane assistance. I'd contact a local authority and report the greedy bastard.

Option 4: I would send an Ebaymail to the seller telling her how terrible it is that she is selling hurricane relief food on the net. When she responds that I am an asshole and she knows where I live (and describes my house to a T) and that I'd "better watch my back," I'd report her email to ebay with hopes that she gets banned for threatening another Ebayer.

Option 5: I would call the local paper after getting contact info on the person selling hurricane relief food on Ebay, talk to the editor, and work on an article with him to expose this despicable person to everyone in the county. Nothing's a better deterrent than shame.

Option 6: When her boyfriend calls from his work to talk to you because she LIED and said that you had called her, you tell him to check the Caller ID when he gets to her house to see that you have NEVER called her. While he's scratching his head, realizing that she lied to him and is stalking another woman, you tell him that he must not know much about the woman he's dating, and then you read to him the nasty emails she has sent you. He is amazed that she knows language like that, much less that she's threatening someone else with bodily harm. You realize he has a gash in his armor and their relationship must be in dire straits, and you work it. You tell him that he sounds like a reasonable guy, and while you understand him wanting to defend his girlfriend, this woman's actions are indefensible--both the auctions and attacks. And of course you say something along the line of "How did a decent guy like you get hooked up with a piece of trash like her?" (This is my favorite option, by the way. )

Option 7: I would do Options 3, 4, 5, and 6. And I'd tell her I'll kick her ass if she ever trespasses on my property or threatens me again.

Ok, since polls aren't working right now, this is the best I can do. What would you do about the situation above, hypothetically, if you discovered said situation?

2. what do you mean by "MRE's that she recieved"?
Not that this excuses any of her other behavior, but if they are hers, I would find it hard to say much about what she could do with her own property - maybe she has food and needs money?

On the other hand if she obtained them fraudulantly #6 sounds good to me. Especially part 5.

5. MREs that were handed out by the national guard after Katrina...
It was supposed to be a "take what you need" situation, but some people took more than they needed and sold the excess. She would have been distributed one box at a time. She would have had to go through the line 5 more times to get the amount of cases (six cases) that she is selling on ebay. When she took those six, that means that six people who really needed food didn't get it, and that she didn't need it, because she is now selling it on ebay.

then to the local officials. What she is doing is fraud.

6. I wonder if she has a guilty conscience.
Down in NOLA, only an hour away, are people who are STILL hungry and without food. If she had not taken food that she didn't need, that would have provided 72 meals to people who WERE hungry. Disgusting, to me, that anyone would sell aid over the internet.

15. You should see the email threats she's sent me.
I agree...she must be a sociopath.

I EBAYmailed her when I first saw her listings, to tell her that I didn't spend hours in the sun in 100-degree heat to hand out these MREs to her and people like her to resell on ebay.

That's all I said to her.

She emailed me back: "Fuck off you jerk, your an asshole."

I did not email her back.

Then, two hours later, after she's come up my mile-long driveway to check me out (that's the only way she could have described my house so perfectly), she emailed me a message that said: "I know you and know where you live. (Description of my house.) What comes around goes around, so WATCH YOUR BACK, BITCH!"

So, at that point, I forwarded her Ebaymail to Ebay. And now I have reported her auctions to ebay. Even though they are closed, maybe she'll still be suspended.

And, of course, I talked to the local daily newspaper editor/publisher, and he's working it up as a news item, using all of the info I provided.

I hope she stays away from me, though. I don't need some looney woman threatening me on my property. I become very protective of my son and myself.

Make sure you and your son are safe.

How did she find out where you live? Is it someone you know personally?

Please be safe!

23. She must have got my contact info from ebay.
Evidently, she did contact-info search for my user name on ebay. Either that, or when I sent her my first Ebaymail, my email address was included.

My email address IS my name. So all she had to do, once she got my email addy, was find my name and address in the phone book. And from there, all she had to do was get in the car, drive about 8 miles, and she was at my house.

I must admit, it took major balls for her to drive down my driveway...you have to drive through the edge of a field, with a canopy of trees over you, down a long and winding driveway that's very long (can't see my house from the highway) to get even within sight distance of my house. Oh how I wish I had been home. I would have got in the truck, drove through the field, and blocked the gate so that she couldn't leave.

But, alas, I wasn't home when she investigated me. :(

7. That's my take, too.
She stepped over the line by driving down my mile-long driveway to spy on me. She had to drive past two No Trespassing signs on the way.

Makes me a little paranoid that she might show back up. Not good for her if she does.

8. I gotta go with a combo of 3 and 5.
Avoiding 4 and 6 like the plague. Ebay feedback is beyond useless IMO, anybody buying MREs on EBay probably already knows it's illegal and doesn't care. 6 is just petty.

3 and 5 will deter others from doing this in the future and make some reporter's day. (We like a good story) Further it will encourage others in your situation to report others selling MREs. Further, people like this deserve to be arrested and have future aid cut off. (which is what will happen to her if you report this.)

rather than Ebay feedback...email EBay directly...as far as I know, it's against the rules to use their site to make illegal sales...they'll pull the auctions and monitor her to make sure she doesn't do it again.

I just reported all five of her auctions, even though complete, to Ebay.

She has made 380.00 on five cases of MREs. Disgusting, isn't it?

I would go with humiliating the MRE abuser and turning her in.

No ass kicking, just let her know that if she steps foot on your property you will have her arrested for trespassing. Also, give the local PD or sheriff copies of her nasty emails and let them know about her antics.

Edited because madeline_con has found the updated info on this.

making a profit off of them is beyond reprehensible. :grr:

Good luck with stopping this woman and please be careful. She has no conscience and we all know what harm people without consciences are capable of doing. I mean, look at the weed and his band of thugs and the war.

Take care of you and yours. :loveya:

Seriously, be careful.

Everyone knows everyone else's business. It's what I hate about this county, most of the time.

I like it in this instance, though, because everyone here will know what she did.

24. I find them quite delicious, when you are starving and have no food...
available, no money because it's in the bank and the bank is closed due to hurricane damage, and no way to buy food because all stores are closed due to damage.

We had to live on them for three weeks. They are not the MREs of old. Have you ever had a Chicken Tetrazini MRE or a Ham and Shrimp Jambalaya MRE? They are actually quite tasty---when you are starving.

And your point is well taken. I don't think people buying MRE's on Ebay are starving though.

And yes, someone who would profit from tragedy like this is obscene and morally bankrupt.

I was just trying to make light of an insane situation, automatic coping mechanism dontcha know.

The emails and stalking are worth reporting. I wonder what she needed the money for. :hi:

Edited to add, realize that some people are buying them for their own emergency kits, having learned from Katrina/Rita/Wilma/Etc that They Will Be On Their Own and it's best to be prepared.
