~\ 100 Days /~ SMOKE FREE!!!!
~\ <----those were supposed to be emblematic of cigarettes , I thought of that.

:woohoo:

100 days August 3 was the day I quit so this is the BIG MILESTONE supposedly.

:woohoo:

Do I still have cravings? Of course I do but what keeps me from smoking are mainly two things
1.I don't want to give up the days
2. (this is funny to me) the thing that KILLS me about smoking is thinking about how everywhere I went before I left home or work I had to check the smokes...Did I have enough? Where could I stop? What's the best way to get in and out of there? etc. The daily logistics seem beyond surreal now.

If you thought I was going to say our cutesy baby Josephine....nah she didn't make me quit I quit WHEN she came but not because of her. She couldn't have made me quit anymore than GOD or the Flying Spaghetti Monster could have.

I haven't gained weight either in fact I have lost quite a few inches on my waist and have been told I look 5 years younger (due to not smoking and exercising).
So 100 days. :woohoo:

100 DAYS!

I remember how my dad used to cough and hack and how old he looked until he quit. Now he looks great, and he doesn't sound like he's going to die.

11. Played golf with the fellas this weekend
BIG TEST!!

They are all supportive so its not like they were holding them under my nose or anything. After golf we went back to a buddies house to watch the Va.Tech Miami debacle...much beer....one smokes fairly regularly (but nothing like I used to) and another smokes when he drinks--I went out and watched them smoke. No real problem but I had plenty of gum and a couple spare patches just in case.

Passed that big test no problem.

10. I used "the patch"
I started off with Nicoderm and whiched to the cheaper CVS patch. The CVS ones stick much better IMHO with or without the clothelike athletic tape, which I highly recommend.

Yes you can feel a difference.

Dude, you don't need anything once you have hit the 30 day mark. Just sit back and think about the logistics like I mentioned in the first post. Remember that? Oh man do I have enough? Do I need to stop? etc.

Also take $100 and stick it in a jar...that is about 30days worth of smoking right there. Then add $3 a day, for now just look at the $100.

Before you ask-I never cut up any patches so I have no idea if it is okay to do (money saver).

Good luck-personally getting past the first 10 days was the worst part for me.

17. WTG! That's great, a year seems like a loooong time, early on.
I'm on the patch (19 days) and I think it's a little weird. I take my patch off at night and several times I've forgotten to put on a new one until MANY hours after my typical A.M. application, and I felt NO difference. I really don't care whether it's psychological, physical, or whatever, though. If it helps me, I'll use it!

19. I was warned about sleeping with the patch on
I didn't find the dreams to be disturbing at all but they were VERY vivid.

I could actually feel the patch releasing the nicotine...at least I thought I could.

21. I had a horrible, very violent dream the first time I wore one at night.
I promptly quit wearing them at night. It was one of those awful dreams where you can't force yourself awake, and when you do wake up, you're practically shaking and nauseated.

I am just 3 or four days ahead of you. Hang in there. I am already severly damaged with emphysema and encourage all of you smokers to try and give it up. It's worth it. It's not as hard as you fear.

Congrats Underpants!

27. Good for you! Almost 2 months for me
:hi: I just quit cold turkey & didn't use any patches/gums/etc. But whatever works! I also have been losing weight rather than gaining it, but I think that's because I also started an exercise program about a month before I quit the cigs and have also been making an effort to eat healthier.

And you're right, the 'gotta check the pack--do I have enough smokes to last until the next buying opportunity?' thought process now seems very strange. I also remember sitting in my apartment at night and seeing that I only had so many cigs left and calculating if that would last me until morning or if I should go ahead and get dressed and run to the store again. Hee.

30. I sort of did the same
with the excercise. I always ran but I bumped it up a notch shortly after I quit smoking. I can run for freakin' ever now. I actually got lost (new neighborhood) a couple of weeks ago.

We all did that. I lived where I could walk to several stores but yeah you have to do the math and see if it you REALLY need to go.

It does seem odd now. Especially driving by the places I used to stop. I do still do a lighter check every oncein a while and I still go back to the smoking area at work to see everyone.

We quit the same day but I don't have your unblemished record. I bummed smokes on two occasions. One day I left the house in the morning with a lighter and that should have told me my subconscious was driving the bus. I'm keeping my resolve.

Health and freedom are the two great motivators.

Good on ya!

39. Congratulations!! That's Quite An Accomplishment!!!
I'm very proud of you! You've conquered the hard part and you made it through the PHYSICAL addiction and the PHYSICAL cravings... from this point forward, you'll just be fighting the psychological desire for cigarettes.

You just have to be strong when the come around. I quit smoking almost 4 years ago and there are still times when I think about how "nice" or relaxing a cigarette would be. But I don't act on it, and the feeling quickly passes.

GOOD LUCK!!

~Allen

PS: Assuming $4.00 per pack at one pack per day... you've saved $400.00!!!!! FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!!!

40. wow underpants how great! But, I have to ask:
On which day did you start feeling normal again???

I feel so not normal! I have quit many times for up to 3 months and I have NEVER felt normal as a non smoker. I feel filled with helium, float-y, weird, otherworldly. AM I just a freak or is there hope of normalness returning? What's the trick?

A big congratulations to you though!!!!!
