Could I be that maybe I have to realize that life comes at its own schedule and that rushing things isn't going to solve my problem. My time will come--I can't make it come until it wants to.

1. Just relax and live, stop obsessing. |
|
Put out resumes. Meanwhile, enjoy your time off and go bicycling, go hiking, go to the beach if you're near one. Spend time with friends, drink cheap beer, chase skirts, have fun...
Move forward. Make sure that you're life's trip is being greased with as much good times and happiness as you can.
Bottom line: Be happy as often as possible. DO THINGS that make you happy. That will keep your mind off your obsessions.

2. Carlos - you're missing the point - go out and CREATE your life... |

...if you "wait for it to come" you will be mightily disappointed when you draw your last breath, and extremely unhappy for all the years until then.

I know - great answer, but let me elaborate.
You can sit around and wait for life to come to you. You have to make things happen for yourself. That being said, you aren't going to go from the mailroom to the CEO's office overnight.
As I've said before, I took a job with the State of Texas over 11 years ago. I didn't like the position itself, but I liked getting paid regularly and having benefits. I also noted that there were positions within my agency that I would enjoy, and for me to get one of those jobs was going to require several steps along the way. For the first 8 years of my career, I was promoted 5 times and/or took a lateral move to a more visible position. After 8 years, I got a very good position. Now, I'm getting dissatisfied again, and it might be time to move on, but now I have 3 years of experience in an area I like and a stable 11 years with the same employer. Maybe I'll be able to build from there.
See life in stages, make short, intermediate and long-term goals. Rome wasn't built in a day.

5. Y'know, the first thing I learned in Human Growth and Development was |
|
that no child will complete a maturational step until they're ready. All the Discovery Toys and potty breaks in the world won't speed up their maturity. But for some reason, by the time we hit adulthood, this rule is forgotten. I'm not sure that it doesn't hold true our whole lives.
