His grandmother just came into my shop a bit ago to tell me that he was injured; he's at Brooks Army Medical Center's Burn Unit in 'serious, but stable' condition, suffering from smoke inhalation and 3rd-degree burns over 15% of his body, primarily his neck and face. He is expected to survive. He's not quite a year younger than I am.

God, I HATE this bloody war!:grr:

1. And Dub isn't even man enough...
To acknowledge anyone's sacrifice--like your buddy's--in this quagmire. Hell, he can't be bothered to attend ONE memorial service or funeral for those who made the ULTIMATE sacrifice for his stupid, Oil/PNAC-based war.

For his cowardice alone--then and now--Dub deserves to be removed from his "squatting grounds". He really IS a worthless moron...:grr:

(Ladies of DU, please note: The phrase "man enough" I used only as a moniker of cowardice re: Dub; NOT in ANY WAY intended as an inferrential insult to women!)

B-)

2. He's in good hands at BAMC though.
Brooke Army Medical Center's burn unit is world-famous. They'll take good care of him there.

*former San Antonio resident chiming in for the home folks*

I hate this damned war, too. Too many lives ruined for profit.

3. Yeah.
His mom is a nurse, and she told her mom that she's very impressed with the care he's getting. But GOD, I'm almost physically sick thinking about what's happened to Ryan...

7. Padraig, sorry to hear this...
Hopefully he will be home soon. A family I know lost their only child in that same crash. We really need to end this damned war.

8. Yes, we do!

It really hits home when it's no longer just something you see on TV, but a living, breathing person you know in real life. :(

PS--- This is the second person I know who's been hurt badly in Iraq.

9. I'm sorry to hear about this.....
I am a former Aircrewman on Blackhawks. They are beautiful machines, albeit dangerous. We didn't fear anything more than fire and we drilled to put it out as soon as a sign of smoke came up.

I am sorry to hear of your grief. Prayers outgoing for the trooper, you and yours.
