Scientists Find New Species of Whale |
|
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=9&u=/ap/20031119/ap_on_sc/new_whale_4While new species of smaller creatures such as insects, birds and amphibians are discovered every year, it is very unusual for scientists to identify a new mammal, particularly one so large. Most whale species were described during the 18th and 19th centuries when commercial whaling drove many to the brink of extinction. http://drs.yahoo.com/S=96062883/K=%2b%22rush+limbaugh%22+/v=2/l=IVS/*-

This new whale is a member of the genus Balaenoptera, which is the genus that giant Blue and Fin whales belong.
