My cat's name was Cody.
He was big, smokey gray, with those yellow eyes. Cody would leave for days and then come swaggering into the backyard, baring scratches and battle scars, with that satisfied "I kicked all of their asses and pumped the neighbor's cat" look on his face.

After twenty years, I still see his descendants wandering the hood.

Hail Cody.

13. He had a big sack.
Cody also had a twin brother, that was killed by some frat guys living next door. His name was Funk. Funk & Cody. They were neat.

We think Funk was drop-kicked, because the Vet said he had massive internal injuries. Funk was put to sleep in the early seventies.

Hail Funk.

All Hail Cody and Funk.

He's got the battle scars, is built like a tank, and sometimes disappears for an entire week.

32. Mister Bill stalked my hood and was owned by no one. A nieghbor
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 04:59 AM by henslee
who'd been feeding him thought he'd give Old Bill a much needed bath. Bill set him to the hospital for stitches. More than once, I saw Bill scratched up and bleeding. Sometimes, he'd come in my apt. for a snack. My indoor kitty would hide the whole time. Bill would never let me pet him and would let me know when it was time to go. I was in the pet shop once when the owner freaked out and ran to the back. It seemed that Mister Bill would open the back door with a paw, sneak in and help himself to food. The pet shop is gone. Mister Bill still walks the streets, a bit stiffer and a little slower but ready to tangle with any new jack Tom who wants a piece of him. Hail to Cody, Mr. Bill and their kind.

I can't say you'll get over this. I never have. Why are we supposed to "get over" our losses? Don't get me started.

Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 01:43 AM by liberaltrucker
Not unlike my human relatives. I cherish the memories, but sooner or later, deal with the fact they're gone. Get over it? I don't think so. My beloved Grandmother died in 1981. I'll never get over it.

36. I had a similar cat as a kid named Smokey, he once dragged
one of the neighbors prime egg-laying hens in through the bathroom mirror . . . it was bigger than him, still alive and clucking, squawking, pecking up a storm.

It was quite an adventure trying to sneak that chicken back to it's owners at midnight without them noticing :)
