So i joined up at costco today..
After reading up more extensively on wal-mart, and the thread posted here about costco, i joined up because of their business practices and the way they treat their employees. I managed to convince my sister to go in halfsies on a membership, after finally convincing her to quit going to wally world.

I'm going to email costco cust. service and tell them why i joined, i think it's important to let companies know that you support them not just for the pricing, but for their behavior towards employees as well.

1. Costco is a cool store
Especially if you like shrimp. For some reason, the best shrimp I've ever had was bought at Costco.

8. I'm addicted to their sirloin tip roasts
and the sides of smoked salmon; the big blocks of Italian cheeses; the 2-lb bags of dark-roasted Costa Rican whole bean for five bucks; that frozen unpasteurized orange juice from Florida; Costco's got it going on.

I recouped my member fee in one day, just buying my wines there instead of higher-priced wine merchants. It blows Walmart away whewn it comes to selling stuff that urban libbies actually want to buy.

I have no use for WalMart. Costco's a far better store.

5. they have a website, fwiw
I always shop at the brick-and-mortar store, but, if you're intersted, they have a website.

Costco is a great store!

6. Costco RIBS RIBS!
You can't stop their RIBS!
If I had enough money, that's all I'd buy and die of beef poisoning.

7. Yes! I'm gonna do that too. List of decent companies?
I didn't even know 'til recently that
they were owned an actual humanoid.

Lessee, the decent companies are:

-Costco
-Working Assets
-...Um, help...

10. Sears and Sonic Drive In
are good, moral companies. Learned that here on good old DU.

As for Costco, my good friend has a membership so I just go with him occasionally. Their bulk cheese is so cheap, it's the only place I can get real mozzerella without taking out a mortgage on my house.

16. Thanks tridim
I'm really not trying to start a heated debate,
but I got a negative impression of Sears when
they refused to sponsor Politially Incorrect
after Maher's "coward" remark.

Granted, Maher then when on to act like a total
coward himself, and kissed right wing butt up
until they killed the show. But as a result
I'm just not so sure about Sears.

Is there something about them that balances out
the PI episode?

Sure is hard to come up with a handfull of good
companies.

17. Dont forget In-N-Out burger...
In-N-Out (For those in the east) Is a Southern California based, drive in hamburger place with a very simple menu (hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, shakes and sodas. That it. Nothing else) and I think the best damned hamburgers in the fast food industry. They start their help at $8.00 an hour and their managers AVERAGE $99,000 a year WITH top tier benefits. Regarding Costco, i am a member and love the place but with this complaint; Selection. The isnt much selection on certain item types. For instance, bar soap. They only carry (In the one i shop at, at least) about 5 bathroom bar soap brands (And of course, not Safeguard, the one i use!) I've noticed this in many other lines also. But i like the store and the prices and the corporate philosophy so...COSTCO FOR ME!!! (And Target too)

11. They have damn good cherry pie, too
I'm a caterer in real life, and believe me, I've dropped a LOT of coin at Costco over the years. Absolutely top quality stuff for cheap cheap cheap.

Just make sure you have plenty of freezer space free whenever you go.

13. My hubby and I cancelled our SAm's Club (I've been nagging for a while)
and will be going to Costco this weekend. I already don't go to Walmart, and Sams had to go. Will e-mail the head office as well, to tell them why we switched.

14. Costco is great, except I bought too much Beef-a-Reeno.
P.S. I would not recommend feeding it to a horse.

18. Why do we like Costco?
While I am a sworn enemy of Wal-Mart, I am neutral about Costco. Haven't heard good or bad things about them.

What's so great about them? Anybody got a link?

20. link
http://www.fortune.com/fortune/investing/articles/0,15114,538834,00.html

I wrote in and explained my reasons for joining, and told them that low prices only mean so much, that it was important for me to know that they treat employees well.

We should all do this whenever we have the chance.
