Last night, I had to make a delivery to a trailer park not far from my workplace. It's on a private road with a posted speed limit of 10 MPH. And the residents are all elderly.
Now, the vehicle I drive has a bit of power under the hood. All I have to do is shift it from park to drive, and the speedometer automatically jumps to 15 MPH. Couple that with the fact that it was after dark, I had been on the road non-stop for close to eight hours and was tired, and just wanted to go home, and I ended up doing maybe 25 MPH as I drove through the trailer park.
Turns out, the manager of that place saw me and called the store to complain. I didn't hear anything about it last night, but when I got in this morning, the very first thing my boss did was call me into the office to rip me a new asshole.
"I've sick and goddamned tired of getting complaints about your driving," he snarled. Never mind that this was the first I was hearing about it.
"I'm writing you up for this," he continued, "and if I get one more complaint about your speeding, I'll fire you."
As usual, he didn't give me a chance to reply because he didn't "want to hear any excuses." And yes, he has called me into the office before. When you've been on the same job delivering to customers for four years (as I have), you're bound to occasionally do something that will make a customer call the store to complain about you, whether it's warranted or not. But try telling that to my boss.
Two years ago, this same manager had threatened to fire me because he said I was taking too much time to make the deliveries. Now he's threatening to fire me because he says he gets complaints that I'm driving too fast! Typical fucking retail job: damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Someday, my boss is going to catch me in one of my not-infrequent "I no longer give a shit" frames of mind, and he's going to get an earful! A month or so after which I'll probably have to start living out of a shopping cart, but how much more of this bullshit am I supposed to take? I wasn't brought up to kiss management ass in the first place, and sometimes this guy makes me want to pull off my uniform shirt and walk right off the goddamned job! :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:
