We have installed a new Kitchen floor, ask me anything! |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 01:17 AM by politicat
We ripped up the old linoleum on Sunday, laid the laminate in the nook on Sunday afternoon, the east part of the galley kitchen on Monday, under the refrigerator and stove (ugh) on Tuesay and finished the west part 10 minutes ago!!
My back hurts, my knees are bruised, my hands feel like they've been through a mix master, but it's done.
Mr. Politicat concurs and adds that his hands have been vibrated into numbness since Mrs. Politicat does not have the strength to control the jigsaw.
Now....
On to the rest of the house!! (not quite yet.)

Edited to help keep minds out of the sewer and in the gutter where they belong....

Give us a few days to recover from installing it.... and we might get back to you -
no. I wont! Get your own damn floor and test it your own damn self!!

I remember doing ceramic tile in our kitchen. It was hell.
(Hell's Kitchen. Ha ha. Get it? I sure did. :eyes: )
You put down new laminate floor? Very cool - and worth it. You'll love what a new kitchen floor does for the place.
So what's next?

5. Slowly rip up the carpet in the rest of the house and replace with |

laminate. Mr. Politicat has allergies and we have 3 cats.... so a hard surface floor was the idea.
We thought about tile, but this tractoid may not have the "undercarriage" to carry it. I'm in love with the stuff already, even though the kitchen was the hardest part since the cabinets were in the way. (If I ever get to design a house, I want restaurant style, rolling cabinets and work surfaces.)
It looks so much better... light is more diffuse, the room is warmer looking (though the floor's as cold!) and I can dance on it... though not in socks. Wheee!!
Dining room is next, then living room, then mad scientist's lab (his office), then scriptorium (my office). I'm holding out for bedroom, but Mr. Politicat said he'd rather have the warm floor than the ability to breathe at night. I am not cool with the snoring and the apnea and offered him sheepskin slippers and throw rugs.
Sigh. Now if only the BC powder and the Orudis will kick in....
