My son passed the Bar!!!! |
|
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
He called this morning 6am our time 9am NY time to give us the news. We've been biting our nails in anticipation and the anxiety level was really building up. Took nearly 4 months for the NY Bar results to be posted.
Now I don't have to worry about him anymore. :-) (Until the next thing)

2. Yah mean without stopping for a drink? |

I should have become an electrician instead of a lawyer: better pay, cheaper education and I would not have to work with assholes.

I'm a lawyer here in the empire state. The NY Bar always issues the test results a week or two before Thanksgiving. It is mostly because of the number of people taking the test is often over 15,000 people. Many state don't have 15,000 lawyers, let alone applicants.
My practice takes me around the country, but I do enjoy practice in NY more than most places. It is such a big bar that I work with many different people. In some areas it is the same people on most cases.
Good luck to him. The character and fitness portion is now. Tell him to get the papers filled out as fast as possible. If they are not in the mail before mid-December he will probably not get sworn in until next summer. If you beat the January rush, you can get sworn in before March.

6. He's filing his admittance |

papers today. He really likes his job but was anxious to get started on the real nitty gritty work.

8. Some of the papers take time, but get them done |
|
He will need to get affidavits from former employers and current employers. He will need to get transcripts from his schools. He needs some character references. The biggest pain can be the transcripts and the affidavits from former employers. Most schools can do it right now pretty quickly, but once they are doing grading from this semester they can take some time to get transcripts out. Also, many former employers are pounding out year end projects, so he may need to prod them to get them filled out quickly. Every year or so I get a few from former law clerks or other employees and I try to get to them as quickly as I can, but sometimes travel and client work causes me to take a few weeks to get the affidavits filled out.
After this is all completed, he will have an interview with a current NY attorney. I do them all the time and they are pretty harmless. The stuff he fills out is easy, its the stuff out of his hands that may take some time. The biggest complaint I hear about every year is how long it takes to get affidavits and transcripts back, and then the delay for people who fail to get the application completed before the holiday season. Sorry to go on, but I thought this might help him out. Best of luck to him. It can be a very wonderful career.

15. I think his current employer |
|
already did all of that. He submitted endless transcripts (A royal pain in the butt) references, FBI checks, etc before he was hired so that should be pretty straight forward.
Pretty relieved all around since having to take it again would tie things up for at least another 8 months. Ugh.

It wasn't open though, so i'll have to wait a few more hours before I can go back and get a good stiff drink. ;)
