Son of Beneath the Planet of "I Really Want A DU Star" Pledge
A year ago, I decided to quit being a secret Santa with DU stars, and instead posted the following:

I've been handing out stars anonymously every quarter for more than a year now, which gives me a warm feeling every time right up to the point the recipient in question drops out of the DU universe after a week. Therefore, I'm going to need a bit of a commitment this time. I'll be handing out two stars, but I have a shrewd notion that if more than two of you reply, some good soul will probably also take care of you.

Here's all you need to say:
I really, really can't afford to donate at this time.

I am significantly hampered in my enjoyment of DU by a) not being able to search; b) not being able to run polls; or c) not being able to participate in a DU group or groups. (If c, you might also want to specify which group(s).)

I crazy mad love DU and promise that I'll be sticking around for at least the next three months.

Agree to these terms (pretty stringent, huh?) and at least two of you will be wearing a shiny star by your names, um, as soon as Skinner can get it up there after I donate in an hour or so.

It's sufficient to say "I pledge" in the subject line, though the old "I, state your name..." from Animal House is always funny, too.

All I can add to that now in 2005 is "I'm not a psycho freeper" and "I want to be your love monkey." (Ok, kidding about the latter one.)

PS: In case anybody's been wondering about my extended absence (cue crickets), I've been fine. Just staying at my girlfriend's place which I think is sufficient imposition already without also tying up her phone line and internet connection. I check in with DU nearly every day, though. Just haven't had a lot to say. We're participating in National Novel Writing Month, she by writing an actual novel, me by thinking about it a lot. Some things never change.
Best to all!

1. Once more, with feeling
Even though we went over 1000 Friday.

2. I really, really can't afford to donate at this time.
It has been a bitch this year, and it would be wonderful if just once kindness would come my way, especially to benefit DU.

3. It could happen
Don't forget the second through fourth paragraphs of the pledge, though.

4. The first sentence was the most important to me, and quite serious
If that is insufficient to expand my privileges, I'm sorry I asked. I hate being asked to grovel, more than anything else.

5. Star is coming; no grovelling necessary nor requested
Read those paragraphs again and maybe you'll understand why I asked-- or maybe the troll problem has abated lately. I haven't been around much.

6. Someone donated a star to me and it really made my day
If it was you, then thanks a "brazillion".

If not, well to whomever it was, thanks.
