Is this spoiling my cat too much? |
|
As my fellow northeast/upper midwest DUers know, its pretty cold out. So, seeing how our apartment has terrible heating, I set out a heating pad on the bed for them to lay on, and sure enough, they're sprawled out on it in contentment...too much? :D

Don't see why, I used to buy heated rocks for my iguanas. |
|
Well, technically, they kind of required them (I was in Alaska at the time). But still, I don't think it is going overboard (until they start chewing and lose bladder control, at least).

I give my 2 furry babies their own down comforter, and they cuddle up together on the bed in the guest room. Hadn't thought about a heating pad - great idea!

5. I'd be hard pressed to call that too much, - |

especially since I've been doing the same thing for my little fella for a few months now. I used to keep one on all the time for my now departed elder cat Romeo, as it helped ease the stiffness from his arthritis.

I leave the electric blanket on my bed turned on all the time, so my sweeties can sleep any where on the bed they want to - not just in one little spot. :P
(plus the bed is toasty warm when it's time fo rme to sleep. :) )

I went and bought my kitties a heated cat bed, one of the round ones made with foam rubber and covered in wool (fake, of course) but with a heating pad on the bottom. I... uh... also got them a heated window perch, same brand and basically the same design.
I used to have a heating pad that I left on for them all the time on my bed, but when Mom found out she thought it was dangerous because "heating pads aren't designed to be left on all the time, you know." Well, Mom thinks pretty much everything is dangerous. In fact, when she got her first computer (at age 75! Go Mom!) at first she wouldn't even turn it on unless my sister or I were in the room. Hee hee!
But eh-nee-way, do my kitties love their heated beds? Ohh yeaaah! Would I have been just as well off keeping my heating pad for them? I think so. Would I get the heated beds again? Nah, too expensive.
So obviously I don't think that the heating pad is "too much." In fact, I think it is sweet and thoughtful of you to consider their needs and take are of them that way.

11. My Mr. Sweetie Pie chewed a brazillion holes in my vacuum cord |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 06:45 PM by SoCalDem
make sure no one's a cord chewer... Cats are like little furnaces when they sleep..they might not need a heating pad..
Out old doggie loved the heating pad, and would lay on it "on or off"..
Sweets was lucky the vacuum was unplugged when he customized the cord.. he will chew on purse straps, shoe straps, or any cord he can get his choppers on.. He especially likes the round rubbery ones.. not too fond of the flat ones..little brat!
