Three words. LaChoy Sweet and Sour Chicken... |
|
I know. LaChoy Sweet and Sour Chicken isn't three words, but when I decided to get some of it at the grocery store for my aunt and I, that's what I heard: three words. Those three words were, "Smells like shoes." That is what she said. She was right. If you care about your family or the smell of your home and upholstrey, stay away from that stuff.
I cooked this stuff and put it on the plates. I did notice that it smelled horrendous, but most Chinese food (and Mexican food while we are at it) does. Think about Doritos. They smell pretty bad, right? Well, I taste tested it, but apparently only got the "sweet" portion of it when I tried the pineapple. I did notice a slightly weird taste, but nothing like what happened when I got a full fledged mouthful later. Well, I served it up and my aunt, who has multiple sclerosis, leaned over her plate. I heard an audible wretch (hilarious by itself considering I have only ever heard her do it once before when my cat had diarrhea), but then she said "Smells like shoes." She said it matter-of-factly too. No frills or anything. Just simply a wretching sound and "smells like shoes." If you could have seen the look both our faces when we actually tried that crap, you'd be rolling on the floor laughing literally.
Anyhow, I keep burping the one bite of that crap that I was able to make myself swallow. We both decided ham sandwiches were as exotic as we could manage after that ordeal. We actually kept gagging when we scraped it into the trash. The cats smelled it and one of them tried to roll in it. She's one who normally will eat anything we eat and demands we share with her. Not this time. This was obviously something really smelly. I had to take the bag out and tie it up.
Oh, the laughter never ends around here.

I remember eating their microwavable shrimp mini eggrolls as a child and getting quite ill. I came to the conclusion that "LaChoy" was Chinese for "laxative."

This is the second thing I have tried with the LaChoy name. Normally, their sweet and sour sauce is passable, but this was awful.

6. LaChoy is wretched...and it does not swing American... |

You can't can Asian food because it becomes soup.
Try marinating some chicken, then cut it up and stir-fry with some onion and pepper. At the end throw in some pineapple chunks for a minute or so to warm, then serve over rice and add some sweet and sour sauce from a jar or saved packets and you'll have better S&S chicken than you could ever get in a can.
