I Got Rid Of My Cable Modem... And Got DSL Instead. Ya Know What?...
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 09:37 PM by arwalden
... even though the maximum speed for the DSL connection is not as much as the maximum cable-modem speed, it certainly seems to be just as fast!

I get the feeling that Comcast had somehow over-sold the lines in our neighborhood, or they didn't have enough nodes... or something. Because ever day around 5-6PM (and all weekend long) the download and surfing speeds seemed to be about the same as with a 56K modem.

Too many users... not enough bandwidth.

I haven't noticed that at ALL with Verizon's DSL. Better performance, consistent performance, at about HALF the price... I have no complaints!

Okay. Thanks for listening. That's all I had to say. You can return to whatever it was you were doing.

:hi:

1. You don't have to share your DSL with your neighbours
I'm very happy with mine. Never had a problem with it.

2. That mirrors my experience too,
stuff like surfing DU, DSL loads effecctively instantly, a few weeks ago I had to re-install an HP printer/scanner/copier) 365 MB download and it was over in about 13 minutes. Unless I was downloading movie after movie I don't see where cable woould really pay off.

And when I had a cable modem itwas pretty damn unreliable.

3. OK, you guys are making me feel better about my decision
I planned to switch to cable modem in February but last week the DSL company called and offered a significant speed upgrade for $5 a month. I studied it and took it, once I verified there were no hidden charges. They upgraded one day later and so far it's been great!

4. I'm going to DSL as soon as they get my line going.
I've had it with Adelphia cable. It's down more than it's up. DSL is going to be cheaper, too. It was supposed to be ready on Oct. 31, but Wilma got in the way of that. Can't wait till the end of the month!
