Why is learning of this actress's death affecting me so much?

When I was a teenager I loved the Movie Little Darlings. Thought Kristy McNichol was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

So Little Darlings was on last night and I was nostagically watching it, noting how Matt Dillon was beyond gorgeous but talked like he was functionally retarded, how Cynthia Nixon (Miranda on Sex and the City) was so funny as this new age hippy kid, how much Tatum O'Neal looked like her Dad

but more so, I remembered how much I had enjoyed the work of this one Actress Alexa Kenin, who I remembered seeing in lots of stuff in the late 70's and 80's - and wondered whatever happend to her.

So I looked her up on imdb only to find out that she died at the age of 23 in 1985. There's very little out there about her death, but it seems as if she was murdered by either an ex boyfriend or a crazed fan. Her last movie Pretty In Pink was dedicated to her.

Ever since I found out I feel so incredibly sad. I'm sure it has to do with other stuff - there are a real, current issues to be concerned about. But it just feels like it's one of those things I wish I could go back in history and undo so she could have gone on and given us more of her talent - like Lennon, and Dean, and River Phoenix. Such a waste.

I don't remember exactly what else she played in, but I do remember seeing her in other things years ago. Sad to hear that she died like that so young.
