Screen shot of a virus at work
This is one of the newer "social engineering" virii. It pops up and waits for you to click on the "UPDATE" button (in reality, a mouse click ANYWHERE ON THE WEB PAGE will activate it!!).

By the time you start seeing this, you're already infected. Clicking it will just activate further nastiness.

I have not tracked down exactly which virus this is. Doesn't matter. UPDATE YOUR VIRUS SCANNERS!

1. Isn't that a DU-sponsored popup?
I've seen that one come up right after I log into DU. DU has a rotating series of pop-ups that help pay the bills.

2. er... no.
that's a popup. it might be a way to sucker you into doing something harmful to your system, likely, but seeing it does *not* mean you've already been infected with anything.

3. Tell that to the computer I'm locked in mortal combat with.
IT thinks it's infected with SIX virii.

I'm not going to be the one to click on it and spread the wealth any further. You can do it if you want! Have fun cleaning up the mess...

1. That's a web-page not a program window (the explorer icon in the task bar gives it away).

2. Windows system updates come from microsoft not "a.rn11.com"

3. Windows system updats come from a program window, not internet pages.

4. Blue screens prompt errors not updates

5. Blue screens signal an automatic restart with win xp

6. Blue screens take up the entire screen and lock your mouse function

7. Your background is attrocious, please change it for our sake.

5. System Soap, Internet Washer and their ilk
are programs but they aren't viruses. These types of popus are everywhere. Learn the difference.

7. me too
That's either a plush bunny rabbit (which makes me suspicious for one set of reasons), or something that would turn this into a sex thread (which makes me suspicious for a whole different set of reasons).

But I've got a filthy mind.
