Richard Kern and other "Cinema of Transgression" directors..
Last night I found a book I have called Deathtripping which is about Richard Kern, Nick Zedd, Lydia Lunch, Beth B and most of the people involved in the transgressive cinema movement in the 80's. Talk about some weird, weird stuff. Anyone seen any of the movies/works by these people? I have some of the old Kern movies on tape and some Lydia Lunch stuff that I haven't watched in a while. Just super bizarro and great to pull out when you want to dumbfound people or make them think you are somehow mentally unbalanced.

1. I recently saw a Redken Hair Care Products poster...
obviously shot by Kern. Same type of lighting, pose of the models, exposure, etc (but there were no ropes, nipple rings, or handcuffs)
I spent a large chunk of the 80s involved in Zedd's Cinema of Transgression

3. That's bizarre....
And I thought it was strange when he started shooting videos for major label bands.

Does Zedd do any kind of work any more? I know Kern has continued to work albeit more in photography than film, but haven't heard anything about Zedd. Granted, I haven't been keeping tabs, but still.

5. Zedd is still making films...
but now they are more in the "classic downtown camp" style. Jack Smith/Kuchar references to melodramas, drag, etc.

2. Great book series
The "Creation Cinema" series from Creation Books is awesome. Check 'em out sometime. I've read most of the books in the series. Great stuff.

4. I've wanted to read some of the others...
But some of them have seemed a bit too on the macabre side for me. At least the current me. 5-10 years ago...now that's another story.
