1. Dude, I can relate.
Went through that twice.

Have you tried Gatorade? Worked wonders for me the second time.

2. Oh my God
buddy, are you on Atkins? That could be causing it. High amounts of protein put much stress on your kidneys.

3. Are they able to give you lithotripsy?
Where they break up the stone without surgery? I had that. Either way, I pity you. What are they giving you for the pain?

You should probably be lying down. You poor, poor thing.

8. They are able to
but they said they didn't want to because they said it's just small enough to pass.

JUST being the key word!!

13. My sympathies
I've been through that myself. I finally spent an afternoon in the ER, where they pumped so much IV fluid through me that it finally washed it down. When it came out (THERE was a new sensation) it was about the size and shape of a mung bean. I've had the odd small one appear since then, but, praise the Lord, no more big ones.

A friend once told me that if she had the choice between passing another kidney stone or giving birth again, she'd pick the childbirth.

15. Been there...
done that...ONCE...hope to the gods it never happens again.

I had a week of the worst pain -- I said afterwards that if I could have made it to the window I would have jumped. The Vicoden they gave me only made me more sick to my stomach.

That bugger took almost two months to finally pass! It spent the last two weeks sitting in my urethra.

Ouch.

Good luck and may this pass quickly!

18. Sorry about your pain...

(This is from BrotherBuzz's wife-) I googled "passing kidney stones" (always curious about health subjects), and found some interesting stuff. Here's one idea I clipped for you from a kidney stone message board.

>If you want a more natural way of trying to flush out kidney stones, then I would suggest that you buy some homeopathic Urtica Urens in either a Mother Tincture or a 6 or 30x potency. This is stinging nettle, and also has an affinity for the urological system, being one of the cyctitis remedies with Cantharis. It actually helps the kidneys to produce more urine and if you are passing more urine, then you are more likely to pass the stone with less problems. Give it a try and see in conjunction with drinking a lot of fluid, he should pass the stone sooner rather than later.<

Maybe you could ask a friend to stop at a health food store for this homeopathic remedy and the grocery store for a big bottle of Gatorade. You are not supposed to lie down since physical activity will help it move out, but if it's like labor, a long warm shower will help somewhat!

22. Well in that case - BEER!
 :toast:
Drink up! Beer is great for everything except sex and driving. I broke my arm once - went home and washed down several BC powders with a six-pack. Worked wonders. Of course my arm was still broken when I sobered up, but damn I felt good until then.

My father had one once. He prayed for death. No kidding. Sending healing vibes your way. Hang in there, man. And don't forget -

19. Dude, I feel for you.
I had a kidney stone last year. It was the worst pain I've ever felt.

They had to use lithotripsy to break it up.

Then I got a UT infection, and they gave me Cipro.

For several weeks after the lithotripsy, I still had pains. They were more aches, and they tended to feel very much like hunger pangs, so I couldn't tell when i was hungry, and when it was just my kidney hurting.

20. I've never had them
but it sounds awful. How does a person know if they have kidney stones and if the pain they feel is one of them passing?

21. I've heard it said
that passing a kidney stone is the closest thing to giving birth that a man will ever experience.

Hope you feel better soon.
