Week 11 Dallas Cowboy thread
Well, you give Belichick two weeks to prepare, and boy, did it show Sunday. Dallas' offense has become so anemic and very predictable, and now a new element has been thrown into the mix - penalties. Every time Dallas was getting something going on offense, one of the o linemen was being penalized. At the half, Parcells was yelling at the head ref, but he did come out and say penalties was what was killing them and that things needed to be worked on.

The big question in Dallas this week is about tweaking the Dallas offense. Some are now saying that Parcells is simply playing too conservatively. It is true that things need to change on offense, but does Dallas have the weapons? Apparently not, and that is a big problem.

Dallas can still play defense, and that's why they still have a good shot at the playoffs. The Carolina game will be tough, and once again home field is the thing that will give them a chance to win. Plus, this is the first game in four weeks that the Cowboys play a team not coming off a bye week. I'm hoping that this will be a difference, but I'm certainly not counting this week as a win.

Philly will still win the east, but Dallas has a good shot at a wildcard. Dallas still has three winnable games on their schedule - Miami, Washington, and New York. 10 and 6 will get them in, maybe even 9 and 7. The next couple of weeks will tell us a lot about the makeup of this team.

1. I've been doubtfull of Dallas mostly because of their offense
But their defense is so great because of their ability to hold teams like Buffalo and Washington the entire game and hold them to very minimal points. Holding Buffalo to 0 touchdowns is impressive by any standard and won by scoring only 10 points. They now have the #1 ranked defense and it is true that defense wins games, all Dallas needs is a couple of offensive players and they will be a team that could win a Super Bowl. They even held the Patriots to only 12 points.

7. Good point. But even Parcells acknowledged
that Dallas can't keep winning games 10 to 6. Defense can win football games, but you need a little offense in the mix. The Boys lack of offense will probably be the reason Dallas gets knocked off in the first round of the playoffs, granted they get there (and I'm thinking they will).

8. I agree
I do think they will be in the playoffs, being 7-3 with 6 games left to go is a pretty good position to be in.

9. You have every reason to be proud. Carolina is very good
I love their defensive line, and the Stephen Davis signing was probably the free agent coup of the year. You have a good offense with a very good running game, and one hell of a defense. They are a fun team to watch - I'm very nervous about Sunday.

3. The Cowwussies can't stop the Cleveland Brown offense
They scored 44 points last Sunday. The Cowwussies can't even score over 21 points they can't stand a chance against the Browns.

4. I can't believe I am defending the Cowboys
The Browns scored 44 points on an Arizona defense that is extremely weak on the road. Arizona might of had a chance to win that game if they were at Sun Devil Stadium because they are surprisingly very good at home. The Cowboys have the #1 defense in the national football league. Ever since week 2, they only allowed 1 team to score 20 points once and that was the Philadelphia Eagles who happened to be in the NFC Championship game last year.

That previous post from the Browns fan was ridiculous. Even the most rabid of Cowboy haters could have seen that.

10. I found the cowwussies schedule
They only scored 24 points on Arizona, Cleveland scored 44. The Cowwuessies are overrated like always and so is Parcells.

Talk about weak.

Hey, how about something constructive to say. Or at least intelligent. Stop letting your blind hatred and jealousy get in the way.

19. Then why are you being obstinate
You know, if you started a Browns thread, I probably wouldn't read, much less post on it. Unless the Browns were playing the Cowboys in that particular week.

Causing trouble and using deragatory terms right there shows your obsession with hating Dallas. What about the AFC north? Why aren't you focusing on that? Or your team's own troubles?

It's simple. Some people are genuine fans and pull for their team. Some are those who simply let blind hatred get in the way and pull against another team. You seem to fit in that category, or you wouldn't be here posting illogical, spiteful posts.

I am sorry I don't worship the cowwussies, I forgot they were America's team. I hate the Cowwussies, I ain't afraid to admit it. The Browns scored 44 against Arizona, the overrated Cowwussies couldn't even scored 25.

Anyway you look at it, Dallas is 7 and 3 with the top defense in football. I sure wish Dallas had Cleveland (or the AFC North for that matter) in their schedule this year. It sure would make things a lot easier.

The Cowwussies would die playing Indy, Baltimore twice, Pittsburgh twice, Kansas City, Denver, St. Louis, and Seattle all in the same year.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 11:26 AM by Ishoutandscream
How would you like to be playing the NFC South? Carolina, Tampa, and New Orleans? Don't be going on about the AFC North being a stronger division than the NFC east. That is truly laughable.

On edit - playing the AFC east is no walk in the park, either.

31. He surprisingly did have a point
The Browns are facing a tougher schedule then the Cowboys, actually Dallas reminds me of an AFC North team. A very tough defense with a mediocre offense, the Browns are going against the AFC West which is Oakland(AFC champs last year), San Diego, Denver, and Kansas City. The Cowboys are going against the NFC South which is New Orleans, Tampa, Falcons, Panthers. I say the competition in that area is about the same. Score is 1-1. Now Dallas faces tougher competition in their own division, no argument here. So the score is Dallas 2-1. Now Dallas goes against the AFC East which is a very strong conference but Cleveland is going against the AFC West which is a very strong conference as well. But the bottom feeders in the division made me give the edge to Dallas. Dallas 3-1. Now on to one teams from divisions. Cleveland's AFC East opponent was New England who is 8-2 and on top of their division. Dallas's NFC North opponent is Detroit who is at the bottom of their division. I had to give the edge to Cleveland. Dallas 3-2. Cleveland's 2nd one team division is the AFC South, they played Indianapolis who is 8-2 and on top of their division. Dallas's NFC West opponent is Arizona who has 3 wins and on the bottom of their division. Cleveland gets the edge again, the score is 3-3. In tiebreaker you look at overall record of opponent. Cleveland's opponent's record is 85-75. Dallas's opponents record is 76-84. Cleveland once again gets the edge, alot of research went into this post so don't dismiss it entirely.

33. Good point. But Dallas drew Detroit and the Cards
due to Dallas' last place schedule. If anything, because of last year's cellar finish, Dallas did need some breaks.

I would still prefer Dallas in the AFC north. I wouldn't want to face Denver and KC, however.

11. Late report from Foxboro
80 hours after the Patriots left the field the Cowboy offense has moved into New England territory and is threatening to move into the Red Zone. Several penalties have hurt Dallas on this drive, but the lack of another team on the field has enabled them to overcome those flags.

At least, that's what I'd post if I wasn't so afraid of VelmaD.

13. Well, normally I would whip out my flamethrower at the mere mention of the
Foulboys, but it sounds as if you are being reasonable in talking football, so I shall respond in kind:

Dallas will make the Wild Card, and may even win the division. It all comes back to Andy Reed's crazy decision to not only do the EXACT SAME THING as he did 3 years ago, but to do it to the TUNA!.

Now against a crappy, ill-prepared, and weak coach like a Dave Campo or a Ray Rhoades, maybe you try that...although it still isn't bright. But you have to figure the Tuna is going to be mentioning it to players just in case (because that's what good and great coaches do preparedness-wise).

And, of course, the Eagles-Dallas game media post-mortem showed that's exactly what happened.

Even as badly as the Eagles were playing at that time, take that 7 away from the Cowboys and the game is something of a blowout...no late field goal was gonna save 'em then.

As to the Cowboys winning 3 of their last 6, much as I hate to say it, 4 is not out of the question because of the Tuna Factor, and might even be likely.

One thing is certain, though, when the Cowboys come to the Linc on Dec. 7th, the Eagles are going to give them the Pearl Harbor Treatment. They are hitting their stride and it is a big-time revenge game, a division game, and likely will be for 1st Place.

Nighty-night, Cowboys. However, with ANY Tuna-coached team, there is no such thing as a sure thing.

Finally, things may well shape up that the Eagles and Cowboys meet a 3rd time in the Playoffs. THAT should be interesting.

My thoughts on an Eagles-Cowboys Divisional Round Matchup:

At Philly: 95% chance Eagles win
At Dallas: 60% chance Eagles win

Even factoring in the Tuna, the Eagles vast playoff experience will mean a lot against the untested-in-the-playoffs Cowboys Team.

However, there is no doubt that the Cowboys are up and coming and that once they get that playoff experience under their belt plus another year of Tunafication, they are going to be scary.

Which totally sucks, of course. Luckily Andy Reid is the kind of guy that might be able to stay ahead of the Tuna, even over the long haul. In either case, the NFC East is going to get a lot better, especioally if the Deadskins pick up Jimmy Johnson.

NOW LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

15. Well, as a possible Illegal fan, you sound pretty reasonable also
And maybe Dallas can win 4 out of 6, but I'm thinking highly unlikely because of their anemic offense and lack of running game.

Of course, the Philly game will be a wash. That is ya'lls Superbowl every year. Philly is playing much better, and they have a better schedule going down the stretch. Plus the fact that they are more experienced in this capacity compared to the young Cowboys - well, Philly has an edge.

I'm hoping for 3 and 3, ending up 10 and 6. Anyway you put it, this was a masterful job of putting together a rag-tag group and making them believe in themselves.

18. I wouldn't call the defense "rag-tag"
They have very good players on defense and especially in the secondary. Mario Edwards, Roy Williams, Terrence Newman, and Darren Woodson(ASU Alum) make a very excellent unit. But I will admit this, their defense is playing better then expected.

20. At the start of the year, that was the only unit I thought was going to be
top notch. Everything else looked, well, weak. This secondary is incredible, and it sure has helped the linebackers and defensive line look solid in the process.

25. Oh, you're living in the past, I.s.i.s!
People get up for the Cowboys game, but I think it's fair to say that with this team and this coach (think how many years between good coaches it was for the Eagles...NO ONE from Vermeil to Reid, except maybe Buddy Ryan and he was a crappy offensive coach/scout and a hdieously lousy game-day coach) that the Super Bowl is our Super Bowl and nothing but.

Even if that was the case with the fans and/or with poorly coached teams of the past...it sure isn't under the highly competent (time will tell if he is in the Tuna/Joe Gibbs category or is merely an above-average coach) Andy Reid.

But of course, the Cowboy Fan quip that Eagles-Cowboys is the Super Bowl for the Eagles...well that's as much a bullsh*t quip as saying the Cowboys are largely a bunch of no-good coke freaks and frauds who could be known as the Bushevik Team (my own twist on it), but not America's Team.

In summation, I predicted the Cowboys would go 9-7 this year. It was a no-brainer. Tuna is one of the greatest coaches ever, and if he can turn the Rich Kotite Jets from 1-15 to 9-7 without making a single significant player move, well...that's what he does...that's all he does.

Why do I call it your Superbowl - well, how many championships have been won by Philly in the past few years? At times, this game has meant everything to Philly fans.

24. A Cowboy fan here.
They must get a running game. Less Hambrick, more Murrell.

Having said that, I have been extremely impressed with what Parcells has done with this team. Nobody, and I mean nobody, expected them to be 7-3 at this point in the season. They are now interesting to watch again. The defense is awesome. If they had a running game, they would be a real force.

GO 'BOYS!!

The Cowboys are the future of the east. Just like Philly had those great teams in the late 80's and couldn't get it done until Dallas came back from the doldrums to reclaim what is rightfully ours. History once again will repeat itself.

Yes, Philly will win the east this year. Enjoy it while you can.
