looking for a good salad recipe
I'm tired of the usual greens + cukes + tomato + celery + peppers + onions and bottled salad dressing for Thanksgiving dinner.

Does anyone serve anything that has an easy preparation but an elegant feel?

1. Well, you could try this ...
Baby spinach topped with walnuts, apple slices, and blue cheese. Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing. Serve on a plate, not a bowl, and you can arrange the apples in a nice shape. :9

5. that is one of the standard salads in my house
sounds fancy, super easy to make...sometimes we spruce it up by substituting foie gras for the cheese and adding blueberries to the mix. yummy.

4. Chopped salad.
(I'd omit the chicken if you're serving this with turkey; omit the bacon if you're serving with ham.)

This serves 3-4 as a main dish, so figure 8-12 as a side (depending on whether people take a dab or a plate).

1 head romaine lettuce
3-4 roma tomatoes, seeded
3 ears corn, grilled and cut off the cob, or roast a cup and a half of frozen kernels tossed with a little oil or cooking spray, 425, 10 minutes or until browned
2 boneless chicken breasts, seasoned with S&P, grilled
4 strips bacon, cooked well and crumbled
3 corn tortillas, cut up into little strips, fried in the bacon fat until crispy
3 oz blue cheese crumbles
1 avocado, peeled/seeded

Cut everything up into little pieces.

Dressing:
Juice of one orange
Juice of one grapefruit
A squeeze of honey
2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup minced shallots
S&P

Mix all of that together in a blender or shake it or whatever.

Drizzle a little at a time over the salad, toss, repeat until everything's coated.

sections and dried cranberries.

Arrange on a platter with the lettuce and arugula on there first. Make a vinaigrette of olive oil, lime juice, grated lime peel, and a pinch of chile powder. Pour over at last minute.

This is what I am making for a salad on Thanksgiving :-).

Fennel, Beets and Jicama shredded finely served over bed of spinach leaves. (I use my box grater) I add orange zest and a little OJ to a simple vinaigrette for the dressing. Sprinkle with some walnuts or pecans. (I use some that I've toasted and roasted with sugar and cayenne)

10. Spinach, Tomato, Candied Walnuts (or almonds), parmesan &
balsamic vinaigrette. De-frickin'-lightful, and very easy.
