I'm already sick of "The Cat in the Hat" movie
Sheesh, it doesn't even open until tomorrow. For weeks, there has been a deluge of product tie-ins - Burger King, Sierra Mist, Pringles, MasterCard ... have I left anyone out?

And there's no way that this film will match the 1971 TV version anyway!

1. THANK YOU!!!!
Someone else who is just as irritated as I am about this.

I'll add this to my list of movies I'll never go see because it's been shoved down my throat with advertising.

2. Rumor has it
That if you're ver-r-r-ry quiet as you pass a movie house where this is playing, you can actually hear the suck. Be careful, though; scientists are positing that mini-black holes will temporarily form at theaters playing this movie on more than one screen.

4. Worst of all
Bad Seussian rhymes in advertizing, editorials, and stand-up comedy until Christmas week.

5. I hated it the first time I saw the preview.
Its nothing like Seuss's book. It looks terrible.

6. The casting is good
and I haven't seen the PR shit you all have, so I might...might...go see it. But that's because I love Mike Meyers and Alec Baldwin. I'm also a Seuss fanatic, but I think the Grinch movie sucked, so I'm not expecting much. At least the principle actors don't make me want to kill myself, like Carrey does to me when he's in overacting mode.

13. Sorry but the previews
make it look like Mike Myers is playing "Austin Powers" in a cat suit.

Adding sexual jokes to the Cat in the Hat is NOT the way to do it.

Baldwin as the Fish is brilliant casting though.

7. If you have no TV

you won't be deluged.

I've had no TV for 15 or so years; as an upshot I was totally unaware of this film until I saw a post on it yesterday.

Kill your TV.

9. but..but...
I'm forced by law to watch mine! ;-) Seriously, I don't really even watch that much - three or four hours a week - but even in that short amount of time, I can't tell you how many of these ads I've seen.

21. Forced by law? Those bastards!

Judging from what little I've seen in hurried passing, this warrants torture bordering on crimes against humanity.

Ugh!

8. Yes! To perdition with the evil movie!
Even the freakin' U.S. Postal Service has been placing Cat in the Hat cancellation stamps on our mail, with some reference to "Happy Holidays" or the like. I think they started this in October, which must mean that the new federal holiday is Halloween. Maybe they meant Ramadan.

Anyway, there is no escaping this stinking movie. Interviews, features, ads are everywhere I turn. THANK GOD that I haven't seen many of the tie-ins yet.

I went to see "Love Actually," which is rated R, and the trailers before the movie included the one for "The Cat in the Hat." That was bad enough, but they also ran the trailer for the upcoming Ben Stiller/Jennifer Aniston movie, which relied heavily on toilet humor. :puke:

Maybe I'll skip going to the movies this winter.

10. Yup. If my own reaction tells anything
about the reaction of the public, Mike Myers' career is over. I can't stand the idea of sitting through this stupid-looking movie.

Of course, if I had a say, Eddie Murphy's career would be over, too.

15. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 15% rating so far
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/DrSeussTheCatintheHat-1127311/

"...close to being the most unendurable holiday creation of the past dozen years." -- Michael Atkinson, Village Voice.

"...perhaps the worst holiday movie ever made." -- John Anderson, Newsday.

"Heinous." -- Gregory Weinkauf, New Times.

I.E., it bites like prison sourmash.

But you already knew it would.

"Myers isn’t playing a character. He’s just doing comedy sketches in a strange costume and makeup while stealing Charles Nelson Reilly’s voice."
