Thanksgiving food: Anyone ever eaten an egg custard pie?
I don't know what's up with this pic, I found it on Google Images.
Anyway, that IS an egg custard pie - mostly eaten.

It is my favorite. Similar in texture to Mexican flan.

1. Cheesecake is basically a custard pie.
So, anyone who's eaten a cheesecake has eaten a custard pie, albeit one flavored with cream cheese.

2. point taken.. however, cheesecake is much more dense than egg custard
to me, a completely different taste sensation.

7. I lied ... I have more to say about that
Calling a properly prepared Egg Custard Pie

"custard"

is like calling home slow cooked Boston Baked Beans

pork n' beans

Its , its ... well, its just wrong.

And that's all I have to say about that
(if this changes, I'll let you know(

16. I thought
Boston Baked Beans were those red candy-covered peanuts? <ducks>

I agree completely. Egg custard is an idiom unto itself.

10. Custard pie
has always been a favorite of mine. They're not that easy to get anymore that I can tell.....and I miss them terribly!

I don't care for flan that much, however. I prefer the unadorned custard pie to that very thick coating of sweet, drippy stuff on top of the flan. Uck.

Though there is that great Mexican cake (?) that's called something like las leches or something.......It's very tasty!

15. There is no such thng
there is only coconut custard pie, custard being the base upon which the godawful thing is constructed and which can, I suppose, be made like an Egg Custard Pie with the addition of coconut. But that simple addition of coconut makes it something other than an Egg Custard Pie.

An Egg Custard Pie is, and always will be, simply an Egg Custard Pie.

Pure and unadulterated.

Simply heavenly.

23. She gave us one to take with us on our drive back to Calif from a visit
to the clan in the old home... That pie made the drive much more enjoyable.

Pie and homegrown Missouri tomatoes from Grandpa's garden. It was a good trip for our little part of the clan!

I would think pumpkin pie is more like egg custard than cheesecake is.

Mexican Flan = creme caramel the world over.

What catagory would quiches be in?

25. This is a little off topic,
but I got a call yesterday from The City of Portland. I had applied for a job as a Right of Way Agent w/ them and had a telephone interview last week. Apparently I got into the second cut and she called to tell me that they would be calling next week to arrange a second interview. She said she didn't want to leave me hanging over the holidays.

That was really nice. I told her that in the course of job hunting I have found that type of courtesy to be rare.

27. Great!
Keep us posted and let me know if you need any info. about Portland. I've been in Oregon 10 years.

I've found the people here to be very pleasant and polite, for the most part.
