We of the media...
Are tired of being told that we work for this side or the other! When it come to news and programing we do what sells! If you want to make the way things are looked at then change what sells! Become a Nelson Family, stop buying tabloids, e-mail your local TV stations on the shows you like and what ones you don't. Stop buying sertain products that are major sponsers of what you don't like, and incress or statr buying the ones that support shows you do!And do it as a group, we listen to Majorities!

1. The media sucks
and who cares how you feel. The media has not only abandoned its Fourth Estate duty of being a watchdog of the government, they are complicit in fowarding the government agenda with constant reports from officialdom. Maybe you should learn to listen and quit complaining about doing a terrible job while the country sinks to new lows.

2. We do listen!
That is why we report what we do! As for do our "Fourth Estate duty", we do what is alowed by law. Freedom of the Press is limited. We have to follow guide lines or we can get jail time!

3. Your honesty is appreciated
That's good. You're finally admitting that you're simple whores. Just show a little restraint in your lust for money by leaving the celebrity lynching to the tabloids and look into what's happening in the rest of world, will ya?

4. Imagine This
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 08:49 PM by Crisco
Someone hands you a piece of copy you know is absolute bullshit. You go to your program or news director and you say: "this is bogus information. Please let me edit this."

Only YOU allow yourself to be yoked to the wheel. People who work in the media and other commercially creative efforts want so badly to support themselves by living off of their talents and climb to the top of the heap, that many will lose all integrity to the point that they'll peddle any piece of crap just to stay in the game. That's the point when they own you.

If you don't have the backbone to stand up to it and the charm to pull it off, don't come here and say 'turn the channel.' It takes two to tango, my friend.

8. Are You In/ From the US?
Last year there was a local television station in Florida who fired two investigators for refusing to fudge a story anymore than had already been done.

The reporters sued, and won. And then the case was turned over on appeal ; the station's defense was that there was no law forcing them to be truthful.

That's what we're up against here.

10. I have heard that case.
As for no law that says they need to be truthful, that is, well debatable. And many are looking for more to come from this.

11. Lady Freedom
Are you an immigrant?

I ask because, if so, your experiences may be colored by the comparative freedom of the US press to many other countries, and you seem to have an idealism that what they're teaching you in school is what you'll see once you get out there and deal with the real thing, and see how well the powerful are protected (suggested reading: Into the Buzz-Saw).

You would do well to study Benjamin Franklin to understand why so many are upset with the corporate media, which cares more for its stockholders than our democracy.

12. Media only sells itself to
what makes money. I enjoy seeing a good story about good people doing good things.
There seems to be only bad news anymore. Give us something that matters more than the bad and you will see more people tuning in. I know bad things are important, 9/11 for example. Stop trying to outdo one another on this front and I think all will benefit.

As for slanted or untrue news, just watch the media the next time nothing is really happening and they need to fill in time. You will find them reaching into local events that are all bad. Time would be better filled with uplifting and positive news stories instead. Give us back a little hope. You can do it.

13. Exactly, the journalists no longer run the media.
Rather, it is the MBAs and the bean counters. The bottom line is all-important -- not the truth.
