C'mon, Vegetarians. Lighten up.
I knew of this guy, and he really was a vegetarian for all of the right reasons. But he always said:

"I'm not a vegetarian, because I eat turkey every Thanksgiving day."

It's okay. Have a turkey dinner! :)

. . . except for the occasional bacon or hot dog. ;)

5. I don't eat much pork, either.
But you gotta understand, these were my mama's delicious, heavenly fried pork chops, and I'd gone home for the weekend from college, after having not eaten meat for a semester. And the pork chops were sizzlin' . . .

7. wel, if you could just turn up at our old family dinners when I was
growing up, there would be something you could eat, provided dairy and eggs were OK.

My grandmother always, always made home made mac/cheese; a big one.

My mom always made this wonderful baked egg dish in a sauce made of sharp cheddar cheese (wonderful with country ham)

Usually there was an asparagus casserole with ...cheese...

deviled eggs (we were Southern, it may be against the Code of Family Gatherings to have a meal in the South w/o deviled eggs)

Always a tray of celery sticks, radishes, mixed olives and carrots

My mom used to make scalloped oysters too.

Plus the usual sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc.

and the desserts of course.
and the good coffee, and Granny's sweet iced tea that would keep you up all night, it was so strong.

11. There's a circle in hell specifically for these 3 types of people
1)People who discuss how the tryptophan in turkey makes you sleepy. Really? I hadn't heard that.
2)People who point out that celery has negative calories. "You know, you burn more calories eating it than it actually has. a der...ha ha ha."
3)People who insist on pointing out to vegetarians how good turkey is on Thanksgiving.

I'm not a vegetarian and I love me some meats and especially turkey. I'm as carnivorous as they come. But I have vegetarians in my family and the same tired ass jokes every year drive me up a goddamned wall.

13. No thank you.
I can't speak for anybody else, as nobody's elected me grand poobah veg*n spokesperson but I don't *want* any.

It isn't a self-denial thing for most of us, after a few months of not eating flesh, most people develop an aversion to it.

After I was a vegetarian for about a year, I took a drink of whole milk and almost gagged and puked.

I didn't, when I was a vegitarian

Weird thing is, she still will only eat stuffing that was cooked outside the turkey

19. I couldn't eat the stuff if I tried.
I can't speak for all my fellow vegetarians, but this is the way it went for me: when you first become a vegetarian, you crave meat. Then, about a month into it, you start to forget about it.

I've been one for over four years, and the thought of eating it makes me want to puke. As others have said, it's not denial, and we don't eat meat substitutes because we secretly want to eat meat. It's because we don't want to eat meat but would still enjoy the general taste of it without the pesky flesh part.

22. I'd rather have a turkey over to have, not be, dinner.
But that's just me.

I think for Christmas, you should have a "C'mon, vegetarians, lighten up, it's Christmas. Buy a fur coat and enjoy the veal." thread.

23. I have a question
I too was once a vegetarian. I didn't drink milk for about ten years either. I became extremely anemic (iron shots didn't do it) and tried to eat meat and drink milk after that and to this day I am now intolerant of all dairy except cheese in very small amounts. I can't eat red meat or pork but do manage to eat small amounts of fish or poultry. Does something happen to the system that causes meat and dairy to become indigestible? Off topic a bit but something happened and I've wondered about it for awhile. Does anyone know?

25. Your intestinal flora change with time
However most adults don't digest dairy well, the body stops making the correct enzymes after weaning.

FWIW, dairy usually makes anemia worse, so it's probably just as well you can't consume it in any quantity.

26. Thank you
You know the doctors always told me to eat meat anyway despite the pain. I couldn't so I stopped telling them anything about my diet. I just take a really good iron supplement now. Thank you very much.

29. No problem
I've always had low iron (not severely deficient, but definitely below normal.) It wasn't any higher when I was an omni and barely responds to meds (unlike my intestinal tract, which goes on strike whenever somebody mentions iron pills in my presence.) I get a lot of stupid advice about stuff I should be eating or doing and most of it doesn't help at all.

No intestinal problems. It has herbs that helps to keep things moving. If you're interested in researching them it's advanced nutritional research. I just went to the website and it's no longer up. I hope their 800 number still works, I love that stuff. Thanks again.
