Movies that make people uncomfortable like "American History X"
Edited on Sat Nov-26-05 10:18 PM by JanMichael
Or the French film "Hate" or better yet "I Walk Alone". You know the type. The ones that make you close your eyes or feel sick at the World.

Give me some more we've got an empty queue at Netflix!

However it's certainly along the lines of my query...Yuck...I looked it up...probably won't get it.

4. Anything about Nazis or
Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm surrounded by people who seem like they could easily be like that bunch in that movie. A lot of them are pro nazi around these parts too. So, those types of movies make me very uncomfortable. I wonder if they are getting ideas from those movies. I don't trust many of my neighbors here in NC that I meet on a day to day basis. They creep me out.

13. Southern part of the state in
Richmond County. Believe it or not, it is a blue county, but only because the black people vote heavily here. They are consistently my saving grace in this shitty town. The vast majority of the white act like they think nazis were great and they like acting just like those people in the TCM movie. I wish I could replay my life through my eyes. The things I have seen and the things I have heard make me naseous. Believe it or not, I have a cousin that says that Hitler is only second to Christ as far as greatness goes. So that should give you some indication of why I fear this wretched place.

25. Once, years ago, my band at the time was practicing
in a warehouse we rented back then. It was a hot summer night and we had the doors open a little to get some air in there. All of a sudden this guy comes walking in and starts talking about hating the blacks, Jews, and gays. We told him that was NOT what we were all about. He exploded into a fit of rage when we told him that and threatened us and then when he saw that we weren't backing down, he finally left. I haven't forgotten that either.

51. You mean "Mope Master"?
"Right off the bat the chick at the beginning (who I'll call Mope Master because she looks like she's about to cry in every scene) gets the beat down by her ex-human now-zombie husband. So then she bails and gets in a car wreck because women can't drive. Then Ving Rhames threatens to blow her head off, which is cool. They meet up with some pregnant chick and you know it's going to be bad news because everyone hates kids.

"They eventually go to a mall where they're accosted by some dude with a badass handle-bar moustache; before he even says anything, you automatically know he listens to Pantera. His buddies, on the other hand, look like they drink Keystone Light and go shopping for purses. Anyway, the Pantera guy totally wants to bang Mope Master, so he lets them stay in the mall. Then they go around killing rogue zombies for about 45 minutes, no complaining from me. All the zombie actors were awesome and deserve best supporting actor awards for their inspired acting work..."

44. Check out Gasper Noe's "I Stand Alone" (Seul contre tous)
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 12:33 PM by Monkey see Monkey Do
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157016/

His "Irreversible" is also highly recommended.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290673/

For an "interesting" examination of human sexuality and male/female relations - Catherine Breillat's "Anatomy of Hell" will give you food for thought (it is quite graphic though).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348529/

I'd also sort of recommend "Kichiku: The Banquet of the Beasts", but I'm still in two minds about it.
http://www.mandiapple.com/snowblood/kichikudaienkai.htm

On edit - gotta add a bit of British! "The Magdelene Sisters" is a very strong film about Catholic workhouses for "fallen" women.

about "The Butcher" (also played by Nahon) before the events of "I Stand Alone". So far (to the best of my knowledge) it's only appeared on the French DVD for Irreversible, without English subtitles.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218871/

Another film that springs to mind is "A Hole in My Heart" by Lukas Moodysson.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0637615/

Also "Man Bites Dog":
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103905/

edit - have you seen Todd Solondz's latest film "Palindromes", about abortion? It's easier to get through than "Happiness", but I found it stayed with me for some time after.

BTW I thought that "Man Bites Dog" rocked, it was a pretty scathing condemnation of mass-media.

Doesn't "Palindromes" start with a funeral for the girl from Dollhouse? That's so sad...But I'll probably watch it anyway.

What's even scarier is that it's called a COMEDY by most accounts!

It made Shakeydave curl up in the fetal position when he watched it after my qualified recommendation. I said "It's like watching a slow motion head on collision with all the gory details"...

EDIT: Whoops I posted as Stephanie, this is Jan Michael...She would NEVER watch Vulgar...Never.

61. The Paino Teacher. One of the most disturbing films I have ever seen.
I don't think I have ever felt so umcomforatable after seeing a film. My discomfort was not related to the sexual content of the film. It was about my dislike of the main character and how much I wanted to see her humiliated. It was very challenging.

Check it out on imdb
