What's a Good Thing to do on your Birthday If you are broke? |
|
I am taking the day off of College tomorrow and I was wondering what can someone do that is single on their Birthday that doesn't cost a whole lot?
Any Suggestions?

I don't live in a dorm and my College is pretty dead on Fridays.
What can someone single do that is adventurous?

5. Happy Birthday, first of all |
|
today's my b-day and I'm broke just like you, but my electricity hasn't been turned off
so I'm hooking up the turntables, the computer, the amps and the speakers and inviting everybody over on the condition that they bring a record or a song from a CD or mp3 file they want to play
if they bring along something to smoke or drink that's fine too

9. Happy birthday to the both of you |
|
If I was alone and broke I'd just come to DU with a glass of wine and read, which is exactly what I did on my birthday. I'm at peace with myself and don't feel the need to celebrate, but that's me. After what I've been through the last couple of years, I'm way too happy to be here alive and kicking.
Happy Birthday! :)

I can't sleep and If I do it's only for 2 hours at a time. Can you believe that I got two A's on my Culinary tests today and I only had 2 hours of sleep last night. In one way I am tiered if you know what I mean but I am not sleepy. I don't want to be another year older and the depression from my age is getting to me.

11. Just try to keep it all in perspective |
|
No one really wants to get old. I'm a boomer, raised in an era of anyone over 25 was old, or so 'they' use to say. I'm getting to be a little old gray haired lady, but mentally I think like a wise 25 year old. I don't emotionally feel it, so keeping it in perspective, I don't worry about it, cuz there's just to many other things to fret about, and I can't change that birth year no matter how hard I try.
Again, Happy Birthday!

I use to be so gullible. I have always had tremendous faith in people, and some could pull the wool right over my eyes, and I wouldn't even know it. Getting older, maturing, becoming wiser - like the old saying, "if I only knew then what I know now ...." rings a lot of truth. < sigh >

Sometimes when you get older you only want honest people around you because you are so sick of the BS that goes on in life especially with men.

if I had just lost my finacial funding because I let my grades drop by missing class, I would go to class. Then I would "celebrate" later.
Hope you have a good evening. I have a b-day of my own coming next month and I am fine with whatever age I am. You can't stop aging, might as well look at the positives like having a fine tuned BS detector.

Take a long hot bath and then put lounging clothes on and sit and read all day long.
Corarose, here is hoping that your Birthday tomorrow is wonderful, and that all your hopes and dreams that you have for yourself come true in the next year.
Hugs and Birthday wishes, Laura

26. Things to do in Chicago when you're broke |
|
I got these off Citysearch; these are their recommended choices. I'm sure there's more that aren't listed, but I've never been to Chicago before.
1 Lincoln Park Zoo Kid-friendly and free, this zoo is one of Chicago's favorite family attractions.
(Another vote for the zoo!) :D
2 Garfield Park Conservatory A year-round refuge for those in need of a dose of greenery or a blast of desert air.
(This sounds lovely.)
3 Navy Pier This tourist-packed peninsula extends for more than a half-mile into the swells of Lake Michigan.
4 Buckingham Fountain This Grant Park attraction is the perfect spot for a romantic stroll.
5 North Michigan Avenue Known as the Magnificent Mile, this upscale shopping district is Chicago's version of Fifth Avenue.
(Window shopping is always fun, plus you can get little samples at the perfume and cosmetics counters)
6 Museum of Contemporary Art 220 E Chicago Ave Chicago, IL 60611 Phone: (312) 280-2660 Fax: (312) 397-4095 Price: $8; students, seniors: $5; Tuesdays free
(Hmm. Not free today, but Tuesday is!)
7. Terra Museum of American Art 664 N Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60611 Phone: (312) 664-3939 Price: Free. Suggestion donation: $5 8. Museum of Science and Industry 57th St and Lake Shore Dr Chicago, IL 60637 Phone: (773) 684-1414 Price: $9; children 3-11 $5; seniors $7.50
(Again, not free. But if you can scrape together the admission price the tactile experience might be fun)
That's all I turned up. I'm sure you know Chicago better than I do. Please do something fun for yourself, even if you sit in a coffeeshop and read a book.

27. I love going to Borders or B&N and hanging out on a Friday night |
|
I usually don't buy books there (I go to my local independent, but they close early on Fridays).
But those chain places sometimes have great music and for $2 I can get a really really large cup of Ginger Peach Hot tea (ask for double tea bags and you can get away with a refill of hot water for free).
Then I spend the time browsing, reading books I know I'll probably never buy and rearranging the Poli-Sci sections covering up all those nut-job books with good progressive books.
I went 2 weeks ago to Borders and put Gregory Palast books on display and move the Hannity books. The next week they just added more of the Palast books.

When I'm reshelving after the store closes, I take all the conservative "face-outs", put them spine out, and replace them with liberal "face-outs".
And since I work there, it's legit!
Fight the power! :fist:

It depends on the weather, what day of the week my birthday falls, etc. but my birthday is never a day when I have to spend money.
If it's a work day, and everyone else is busy during the day, I get up early and go birdwatching, then go home and take a nap in preparation for the evening's festivities.
At some point if there is nothing planned (that I know about -- surprise parties have occurred in the past) then I call up various friends who don't mind being teased and I tease them for forgetting my birthday. One or more of them will take you out if they have the time, and even if they miss "the day," they'll take you out later, such as on the weekend. Tee hee.
I never do this personally but a friend of mine always goes to Denny's with his driver's license. You get a free meal there on your birthday. He is male so I guess it's the only way for him to get a free meal on his Bday.
